Allow us to set up the default and stepped Dimension Line Offset for the Dimension tool
When we Opt/Alt-click the object or just click a segment, Ai creates a dimension with some predefined distance between the object and the dimension line.
We can’t control it (plus we can’t choose which sides to use for Opt/Alt mode anymore, unlike in early Betas).
Also, we need to be able to hold a modifier while creating a dimension to constrain this offset to a set parameter, in a stepped manner, — something third-party plugins like BPT Pro and CADtools can do.

Please add a setting to customize the default placement/offset distance for the dimension line (the line containing the arrowheads).
Currently, when using the Option / Alt click shortcut to automatically generate dimensions on multiple sides at once, the tool drops the dimension lines at a fixed, hard-coded distance that sits too close to the artwork.
Increasing the 'Offset' under 'Extension Lines' only changes the starting gap of the extension line, not the distance of the actual dimension line with the arrows. We need a 'Dimension Line Offset' setting to control how far away the arrows natively land from the shape upon creation. -

I came here to ask if it was possible to make the measurement text update when the line is resized, but I found this option + click feature and it seems like this solves my problem.
Deleting the old ones and automatically creating new ones this way is probably quicker than resizing.
I do agree that a default offset would be useful. Or at least have a checkbox in the settings panel or modifier key that places the dimension lines on the canvas, just outside of the artboard please.

Hope to add new features for the Dimension tool.
Fixed extension line length.
