Select > All menu command also selects all artwork instead of all artboards only
With the Artboard tool selected, choosing Select > All selects not only the artboards, but all of the artwork—even artwork outside of the artboards.

That’s an interesting clash...
Some commands in Illustrator are secretly modal. When we edit text, Cmd/Ctrl+A selects all the text in the current text object... but the Select > All menu command doesn’t select objects when we do this! Strangely, using a hotkey when in the artboard mode would work as we expect (selecting all artboards), but the menu command behaves differently compared to text modality. The consistency is broken.
