Overhaul of Illustrator's 3D capabilities. Illustrator's 3D effects are hugely outdated. Something that matches or even exceeds After Effects would be a would boost to the program.
Heck, even something that allows you to easily rotate and move the shapes around in 3D space like AE would be great. Illustrator's current 3D tool are clumsy and cumbersome.

Transform Effect with manually adjustable anchor position The current Transform Effects has a very limited anchor position setup (that 9 squares in the bottom corner). To make a custom anchor position, we must input "horizontal" and "vertical" value manually which is very ancient.
Rotation tool with Transform Again method is an alternative when creating a mandala thingy, but it if we want to alter the shapes, we have to repeat the rotation and transformation again, which is another ancient stuff.
Adding a simple clicking right on the artboard for placing the anchor point of Transform Effects would be great. We can just set up the anchor point…

Transform with negative numbers It has become a real frustration when using Illustrator that I can't use negative numbers for the Transform/Move... tool or for the Transform effect. It seems like such a simple thing that I'm surprised it has not been added yet. Please address this in an upcoming update. Thank you.

Add custom shape/image in appearance panel Now one only can add rectangle/circle shape in apperance panel. It would be very useful to be able to add custom shape/image/symbol there also.

Live effects I hate drawing comparisons between applications because I believe it's utterly unfair in most cases. This is not one of those cases. I believe wholeheartedly that we've reached a stage of computing where we can get rid of the "Preview" button in the effects panels. Let's do it. I've not seen a solid step forward in how effects are created, previewed, edited, and handled since I began using Adobe apps in CS4. Affinity is doing this. And it's buttery smooth. And I'm both jealous and confused that Adobe doesn't have this. It's the sort of thing that you remain blissfully…

Opacity and tint/shade options for Transform effect In EFFECT < DISTORT & TRANSFORM < TRANSFORM, it would be really great if you could have a way to fade out the shape's opacity when making copies. Other options, such as fading it to specified tint or shade, would be really great as well. You can approximate this in the blend function, but it cannot generate the fractal-like structures that the transform effect can, so it would be nice to further the artist's capacity to manipulate a single shape.

3D page mockup I'd love the ability to create an open brochure or magazine, or book mockup using the new overhauled 3d tools, but the tool is currently too limited. Seems to me that what is missing is the ability to bend or warp planes after they have been tilted and rotated. There are other ways of achieving this geometry, but they feel like hacks, and the new place graphic/material capability doesn't recognize the geometry that was partly made with other tools before getting into 3d. Please keep developing the 3D features in illustrator with product mockups in mind, including publication mockups.

Line Segment Tool to respect selected Graphic Style by default Currently, if I have a certain Graphic Style selected, it gets applied to objects created with Pen Tool or all shape-drawing tools (Ellipse, Rectangle, Polygon, Star).
This doesn’t work this way with line-drawing tools (Line Segment, Arc, Spiral, Grids…). Or rather it does, only if the “Fill Line” option is turned ON in the Tool Options window. It is turned OFF by default though AND this setting is not sticky between sessions.
So with every new session, I’m back to behavior when a chosen graphic style is not applied to an object drawn with a Line Segment Tool.2 votes -
Dynamic outline (as an effect?) I really wish we could have a dynamic way to create outlines for strokes (with arrowheads in particular) without having to 'break' them into shapes first.
It could be an effect, for example. And yes I have tried the existing 'Outline' effects but the do nothing (or am I not using them right?).

Maintain graph styles when updating data (bar graph issue) Issue with bar graphs:
- All styling is removed when data is updated. Can you make it so it at least retains bar width and color?2 votes -
Custom PPI Option for Raster Effects I am trying to create a new document in Illustator and want 100ppi rester. Unfortunately there is no option. I remeber earlier versios used to have this option, like its even available now in PS

Untie the Transform Patterns checkbox in General Options and Transform Effect dialog. Sometimes (actually pretty often) it is necessary to alter a pattern size for one single object. So you go to Appearance -> Fill -> Effects -> Distort and Transform -> Transform and there you have checkboxes to chose whether to transform object or pattern or both and that is great.
But once you have done this (for one single object) this setting changes the general Option under Preferences->General and this setting affects the entire app, not this file only and you must change it back each time. And that is not that great.2 votes -

Effect units bound to global units. I am working with "mm" most of the time. However, when I use effects, I have to guess the right amount, since those are in "pixel" most of the time.
As an example, feather or blur, and many more.It would be nice if the units would change with the units used in the file.

Remember Kai’s Powertools? Is there a way you can match what that program used to do? It had a way better vector effects ability to extrude and shatter, etc vector shapes and letters. It worked way better than the 3D function Illustrator has.

Alternative 'Object width/height' and gap options under Effect > Transform > Move A couple of checkboxes in that panel for the dynamic size of the object could be handy. A gap value would also be great for the static gaps around multiplied objects. I've experienced 2 similar cases where that option could save me time:
1) Create an object and use 'Effect > Transform' panel to create copies, giving a horizontal or vertical move value. Then edit the object and change its bounding box. They either overlap or the gap between them widens.
2) Create the left half of a graphic you want dynamically be mirrored onto the right side. To use…

the arc effect should be applied to the clipping mask not the original object When working with a large image that has a clipping mask, and then an arc effect is apply to the clipping mask, the effect is recognizing the large image, and it takes the dimensions of the large image to create the result. instead of focusing on the mask only.

Project Glowstick - Painting with Light If you haven't yet watched the tech demo from this years Max, check this out!
Pleeeeeease bring this tool to illustrator. The grad tools we already have are fantastic, but this is just next level.
