Snap textframe size to content (like double-click in InDesign)
A function appreciated by all in InDesign.. doubleclick the side of the boundingbox of a textframe and it snaps/scales immediately to the content.
I'm not talking about Type -> Area Type Options -> Auto-size

stylistic sets
some fonts come with stylistic sets, would me nice to apply the set directly to a selected text, and not glyph by glyph

Auto-adjust text box to text
In the past, with Freehand, we could to do that by clicking on the bottom corner right of the text box.
Recover that would be a good idea.
Thanks!5 votesLatest versions of Illustrator can do that.
If you have the bounding box enabled, double-click the bottom filled square handle to toggle Auto Size.
You can also do that in Area Type Options dialog.

Merge text broken up when imported from a PDF
I often have to import PDFs into Illustrator always have words and sentences that are no longer part of the same segment. Example. I just imported 24-inch. Each letter, number, and symbol came in individually. Instead of retyping it so I can make edits, it would be nice if there was an option that merged the text back into one line. Screenshot will show what I mean.

Marquee Select with text box in scope creates a new text box
Marquee Select with text box in scope creates a new text box. This did not occur in Illustrator in the last 5+ years that I have been using it. This is relevant for users like me who do more text editing in Illustrator.
in 2017 and prior, when you had a text box in scope that you were editing text in, you could marquee select the text or portions of it by starting a click outside of the text area. Now, in 2018, this will create a new text box every time. The result is that it is noticeably more…

More Detail in Font Find/Replace - Include Details to Assist Tracking Down Correct Font
When working with files that reference missing fonts, sometimes it is necessary to find the exact font but there is little to go on other than the font name displayed. If font information was stored such as version, type of font (TrueType, OpenType, Type-1, etc...), foundry, version, date, etc...it would make it far more efficient to track down the correct font.
For example, when working with product labels, etchings or logos often it is necessary to use the exact font to maintain consistency in manufactured products. Having little more to go on than a name makes it extremely difficult. This…

Convert to Type On A Path
The option to convert point or area type to 'type on a path' would be helpful. Also to be able to use the pen tool to add points on a 'point type path' and by doing so converting it to 'type on a path'. This removes the need to draw the path then add the type.

Hotkey to exit Type mode
PLEASE MAKE A "HOTKEY" or keyboard command to EXIT "TYPE MODE."
ONCE ONE IS IN TYPE MODE, A COMMON ERROR IS TO ACCIDENTALLY TYPE:
VVVVVVVVVVVVV
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
MMMMMMMMMM
etc.
The answer could be as simple as "Simultaneous Spacebar + hotkey letter."
3 votesEscape key does that.
If this does not work for you for some reasons — please provide it in the comments.

Faux Italics
It would save time & Photoshop, InDesign, and rich text editors can skew a regular font that does not have an italic weight.

Search for Paragraph Return, ^p
Find and Replace text has a shortcut popup for a Forced Line Break, ^n, but not the more common simple Paragraph return, ^p.
A Paragraph return is the normal Return button on all keyboards. A forced line break is Shift/Enter.
Find/Replace understands ^n notation for a forced line break, but does not understand ^p notation for a paragraph return.

Oval text box
The ability to click and drag with the type tool to draw an oval text box, as an alternative to the current rectangle text box, would be a good option to have.

Library text asset can't save style
v22.1, Windows, 64bit
When I try to add text with a modified appearance to the library I get;
"Only basic appearances are supported for Text in Libraries. Advanced appearances have been dropped to add text to the current Library."
Or; "Couldn't save text asset having style. Remove the styles and try again”.
Seriously – no text styles in the library now? face palm
Ok, so 'Text library asset' is a thing now… whatever it’s supposed to be for, it’s braking basic library functionality.
If I want to add text with an advanced appearance to a library (ie. the ONLY sort…

Fix warp type effects
This has probably be stated before, but has long been an issue with warping text. It plain sucks, especially on an arc unless you use the type on a path tool.
Many moons ago there was a plug-in called Kai's Power Tools, KPT Vector Tools. It worked perfectly with one click and than for those that know Kai the creator vanished and updates were never made. It stopped working at Illustrator 9 for me.
I am sure at Adobe there are many programming geniuses that can make the current warp effects work much better.

Resize Area Type from Transform Pane
When you try to set a size for an Area Type text in the Transform pane, it currently distorts the text along with changing the size of the area. This strikes me as inconsistent with resizing the area from the bounding box resize handles, and also undesirable (am I missing a use-case where you'd want the text to be distorted in this situation?)
I recently became aware there are width/height inputs in Type > Area Type Options but these are cumbersome.
I propose the Width / Height inputs in the Transform pane behave as in Area Type Options.
