Kinda like... 9-slice symbol scaling, more like, locked side scaling
9-slice symbol scaling works FOR CORNERS. But can you make it so that the TOP, BOTTOM, OR SIDES can stay in place and you can just make the length of an item longer? It's not always about Rounded corners, sometimes it's about an ARCHED TOP or CURVED SIDE, which is static but box needs to grow. This is important to me because I'm in signage and every template we work with can be for example: 6" wide or 8" wide and vary in length or width. Please? It would be handy to be able to select all symbols in one grab instead of doing them one symbol type at a time.

Keep name of dynamic symbol after break
Static symbols after the Break Link command are transformed into layers with the name of the original symbol. But dynamic symbols form a group without a name, although the original dynamic symbol has a name. The user has to manually rename the groups. Make a single logic for static and dynamic characters so that the name is automatically assigned to the group after the Break Link command.

Allow us to choose between groups and sublayers when expanding symbols
Why dynamic symbols always turn into groups when expanded (Break Link), but all static ones become sublayers?
Why can’t we decide what we want these expanded results be?
I’d use groups all the time, but I know some others would prefer sublayers... Is it a technical difficulty?Also — why does an extra wrapper group appear for an expanded dynamic symbol?

Allow editing of text content in dynamic symbol instances
When creating dynamic symbols, there can be some changes to individual instances, however, the text content is static. If you need multiple instances of the same symbol, but with different text content, the only way to achieve that is to break the symbol link before editing; future style updates to the symbol will not be inherited. Sometimes the intended behaviour can be achieved through Character or Paragraph Styles, but if the symbol also includes non-text objects, that is no longer an option.
It would be great if text content for instances of dynamic symbols could be changed dynamically.

Symbol preview display size
Even the Large List view is still too small to visualize the profile of each symbol, it works well with simple symbols but with more complex symbols it becomes impossible to see except by the name

Switch symbol shortcut
I would love to have a way to quickly switch symbols with a shortcut (maybe using the keyboard numbers where each symbol corresponds to one symbol).
I have a job where I have to manually insert many symbols of different sizes, and without a shortcut it takes much time.3 votes -
Create a symbol without replacing art with the symbol.
I would like a switch in the New Symbol dialogue to allow me to leave the original art on the canvas instead of replacing it with a symbol.
Also it would be nice to be able to make a symbol out of the entire contents of a layer nested in another layer without the entire layer being replaced by the symbol.
I use symbols in weird ways and both of these behaviors annoy the heck out of me.

Allow to snap to points of a symbol with Dimension Tool
Is there any chance to make it works with symbols? Using multiple instances of a symbol is a basic workflow in many industries (especially in the fashion industry). Unfortunately you can’t work this way because the Dimension tool is not compatible with symbols.

Collision detection for Symbol Sets
The one feature desperately needed for symbols is to turn the symbol sprayer tool into a real particle system or, at least, add collision detection.

Allow outline / edges colour changes in Symbol edit mode
Allow the user to change the outline colour in Symbol Editing Mode. 'Options for Symbol Editing Mode' is always greyed out. It's possible to change the outline colour but it always reverts to the randomly-selected default colour.

Symbol Sprayer Tool Enhancement
The Symbol Spray Tool is very awkward in using and not very intuitive to first time users. Who would have thought to double tap to open the options for the tool. There is very little documentation on this. I do not believe the tool is used by many artist. May be add the options to the menu bar? Also unable to ungroup or align the symbols once they are on the artboard. Would be awesome to be able to create a path and apply the symbols on the path. This would be great to create an outline then spray the…

Remove Movie Clip/Graphic dropdown in Symbol options dialog
Update Symbol Options dialog to remove the Movie Clip/Graphic dropdown which is noted as being for Flash tagging. Flash is dead tech.

Drag-and-drop Glyphs to Symbols
Sort of niche QoL, but it could be great to be able to drag glyphs from the Glyphs panel onto the Symbols panel to create a new symbol automatically. The resulting symbol size could be a ratio based on a preset height or width, set as a preference or panel option, or entered at creation via. a modal.
