We have banding when printing gradients from exported TIFF-files.
I have to open them in Photoshop, search a way to select areas with gradients and apply noise in channels needed.
I can apply Grain effect to gradients where I need, but this makes everything run very slow.
What if you add dithering as an option to gradient swatch? or to fill?
So it could be displayed in screen space, applied to current level of zoom, and would export as raster images as well? without slowing down?51 votes
Switching to solid color to gradient, by default gradient should use as starting color the original solid color.
Since imho mostly people uses solid as starting point, then converts to gradient.31 votes
Don't tell me abous mesh trick, it has it's limits and surely is not that easy to use.
Just make Conical type gradient from the box.28 votes
I'm huge fan of snapping.
I snap tabs to units, I snap to grid, I snap almost everything — this allow me to narrow my design workflow and keep artwork organized.
Not everyone does need this, but I do.
I suffer from absence of snapping for gradient sliders.
I wish I can move one and make it snap at 40, by eye, and not 40.73 and then correct this value by hand.
Please, make an option to snap sliders to integer values.28 votes
If we hold Alt when Gradient tool is active and there is a stop selected, we can click with Alt in Swatches to apply it to the stop (although no cursor feedback or hint signals it can be done). Besides this function, Alt+click is used for nothing...
Use it to temporarily switch to the Eyedropper tool. This is a standard approach in many apps, it’s fast to learn, and just convenient.27 votes
Sometimes I need to move several sliders in gradients at once.
I have to select them one by one and move each at distance I need.
I'd like to select several sliders and move them simultaneously.
Of course, they should be very clearly marked as selected, or this would confuse, if you forget to unselect them and then try to edit color for one.23 votes
Add support for gradient interpolation spaces other than sRGB, such as LCH (Lightness, Chroma, Hue). When creating a gradient between non-analogous colors, the LCH color space preserves saturation throughout the gradient, whereas Illustrator's gradients have a muddy center.22 votes
When we are in Full screen and Want to edit Gradient on the Stroke It would be Great to be able to Enable the Annotator on to Change/Edit or move the stroke Gradient colors19 votes
Shift + > and Shift + < are not taken.
We’d assigned them ourselves, but guess what — you forgot to expose these in Keyboard Shortcuts. As 90% of all other commands and buttons we have in panels. But hey, we introduce new features... finish old ones already.15 votes
Much like the flexibility of the radial gradient feature, it would be incredibly helpful to have a similar tool to make gradients, but one that does not constrain you to a circle or ellipse. Yes, AI provides the freeform gradient tool and the gradient mesh tool, but these are often a little finicky and time consuming to use. One can also use the blend tool to attempt a freeform gradient. All of these are far too complicated for creating such simple gradients. I propose that a customizable shape gradient tool is implemented. Like the other gradient tools, one would create…14 votes
When applying a freeform grad to a compound path, the effect struggles to jump a gap between paths, leaving odd results. If you create a path with a "hole" in the middle and create grad its OK. Move the whole fully out of the enclosing shape and its blank, move back into to cross border line and it works correctly with overlap creating hole.
In the attached file, the four squares are a compound path. Top right shows standard linear gradient covering the whole shape. The top left fort squares are supposed to share a freeform grad copied from the…13 votes
Ai does not apply the Alt+drag paradigm to color stops of freeform gradients. No duplication happens!
We can workaround this, clicking the stop first, and then clicking in a free spot... But this is not OK, because this approach is not used anywhere else in Ai.
You can have it kept, but add Alt+drag to copy stops.12 votes
Sometimes I need to add new objects with gradient fill to my design and keep gradient annotators in the same position as another existing object.
It would be great if a function were added that allowed copying the gradient fill properties from one object to another, keeping the gradient annotators in the same position.
On the other hand, when I add a gradient outline to an object with gradient fill, the gradient annotators do not match between the fill and the outline. This difference is more evident the thicker the contour. Adding the option to keep outline gradient annotators in…11 votes
When applying a freeform gradient, Illustrator picks up colors from everywhere around the selected artwork, also the selected object itself. It would be extremely helpful if it could reliably keep the exact color values the object has, so you don't need to adjust it.11 votes
I have a path I want to be filled with a gradient.
I select it, pick Gradient tool, drag it over the path... and nothing happens.
Because AI demands that you apply gradient fill first.
Well, if I'm dragging over the path with a dedicated tool — what else would I want AI to do? Just apply it in the moment I started dragging.10 votes
Please make the Interactive Gradient Tool work as in the iPad version, where both end nodes behave similarly.
On the desktop version, when one end is dragged, it moves the whole gradient around.
On the iPad, both ends can be moved independently.
It makes the tool counter intuitive!9 votes
if add a keyboard shortcut to the gradient slider to switch color stops instead of mouse clicks will increase the workflow7 votes
In the freeform gradient tool if points are dragged outside of the boundaries it deletes the point. Instead I think it would be better if the points worked outside boundaries to allow for smoother gradients.
See example on how a freeform gradient would appear if points could used outside of the borders (you can currently do it by using a clipping mask but it would be easier if it was built into the tool)7 votes
If you have a gradient set up with custom rotation and you want to pick it to another object with eyedroper tool, the rotation doesn't transfer.
It would save time not having to type it again.
Maybe add some other options as well to have more control.
It should be an option at the eyedropper tool properties. (See image)6 votes
Can you add the possibility to add a gradient to a text without outlining it?5 votes
