Select more than one layer at once Okay if you have more than one layer...let's say 50 and I need to select 20 of them. Why can't someone select them with a single click instead of selecting every single layer? With shift selected I can mark more than one but they aren't selected. Same thing for sublayers and so on.
275 votesHi Everyone, This feature has been available since August 2020 release (version 24.3). Please update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html Thank you for all the feedback.
You can now select multiple layers in Layers panel. Click the bars (they get highlighted blue) if you want to operate layers and not their content (e.g. to drag to reorder) or click their markers to select their content — circle (target ones) or square (selection ones) next to them. There is no real difference which to pick, but if you want to select a range of layers, using Shift, use target markers.

Layers in folders Given that Photoshop can group layers into folders, illustrator should have the same capacity to bring the experience closer together.
It would allow for greater flexibility when editing artwork.

layer locked with password we are creating layouts for franchisees and because many time they unlock the layers and moving around the elements, we thought that locking the layer and protecting the content with the password could be the solution to maintain integrity in the layout designed from the agency

Delete unused empty layers Would love to have the possibility to delete unused layers in Illustrator (like you can delete unused colors very quickly).
e.g. when you have 100 layers and only 10 layers have objects on them, but you don't want to delete every layer manually

Paste Remembers Layer from Indesign To Illustrator When pasting from Indesign to Illustrator it would be very handy if there was a remember way to keep layers intact instead of flattening them onto one layer? Maybe a dialogue box that just okays the action?

Paste in multiple layers I'd like to paste on multiple layers simultaneously - e.g. copy someting, select certain layers, ctrl + alt + v pastes it on all selected layers -> that would be helpful for multi-language files.

Rightclick in layerwindow Allow us to right-click in the layer window. Photoshop has had it for ages, why doesn't Illustrator?
Overall I would like it to be more like the layer window in Photoshop i.e. a Transparency option, better drag and drop and Groups.5 votes -
Hitting Tab To Rename A Layer Targets That Layer Thanks for implementing the ability to move up and down when renaming layers!
Unfortunately, the function has limited applicability for me, because unless I can determine what the layer is, from the tiny layer thumbnail, I don't actually know what to name the layer.
Consider a geometric character design. Perhaps the ears are circles; the eye whites are circles; the pupils are circles; the glasses are circles, the knees and elbows are circles; the hair is a bunch of circles etc etc etc.
I need the shapes to be highlighted when I'm renaming them so that I know what to…

Lock/hide artboard Artboards may contain different objects from different layers... There is no easy way to lock/hide/select all the layers on specific artboard.
It will be a nice Idea to lock/hide/select all layers/objects based on the artboard.
I wish I can do these operation in artboard panel and this feature may lead me to ask why not to Filter Layers by artboard in the Layers panel?!!4 votes -
Can we please have layers control of some level in Touch workspace? Not having any control over layers in touch mode make it almost impossible to use. Touch workspace already have a nice interface but having to go back and forth from one workspace to another just to change layer makin life hard.
Thanks!4 votes -
Bulk re-naming of layers Allow users to select multiple layers and re-name them all at once. I prep layered files all the time for use in AE and often have layers that are all the same type (eg: box).
The user could shift-select the layers, then right-click and select "Re-name layers". Perhaps there could be an extra option (checkbox) to automatically number them, based on the order in which they were selected.
Alternately, you could add a keyboard modifier - so if they re-name a layer by double-clicking it, then if they hit Shift-Return, it would activate the name of the next layer down…

"Move to Layer" in right-click menu I would love to be able to skip the Layers tab on the fly and right-click an object to move it to any layer in the document. It seems like it would make the most sense for this to live in Arrange? Ideally, the layer list would include colored bullets to match layer labels. This would be a huge time-saver for me.

Define a default color for a layer Define a default color for a layer, that is, whenever you create a new layer in illustrator it will keep the programmed color, so it will no longer generate a different color for each new layer created.

Easier way to find object in large file with small blue bar above layers panel Working in larger files, it's hard to find the exact object selected. What if there was a blue bar that highlighted which way to scroll? (top of the layers panel scroll up, bottom of the layers panel scroll down) to find it rather than looking for the blue box next to the object's layer? When you click on the blue bar, it takes you directly to the selected object. If multiple objects are selected, you could keep clicking the button to go to the next object down the list.
I've attached a photoshoped mockup of what I am trying to…

Is there a possibility to activate (highlight/select) layer by clicking on the Eye icon in AI? Is there any setup I can do in AI that when I click on the EYE icon at the Layer, the layer is getting selected by that? It is very inconvenient for me to open the eye and then the layer again to activate it...

Select all objects on same (sub)layer as selected object Currently, you cannot select one object and expand the selection to the entire layer, the existing "Select > Object > All on same layers" selects the parent layers as well.
In case objects have different appearances, but reside on the same sublayer, it is much easier to select one object than to search for the appropriate layer in certain situations (especially on large files).3 votes -
"Draw In Front" button We have a "Draw Behind" button that adds objects immediately behind the current selected object in the Layers panel.
However, we need a "Draw in Front" button that adds immediately on top of selected objects.
The "Draw Normal" adds objects to the very top position in the Layer. The attached graphic was created as follows:
1. Magenta rectangle.
2. Cyan rectangle.
3. Select Magenta rectangle
4. Change to "Draw Behind" mode .
5. Yellow rectangle.
6. Select Magenta rectangle.
7. Change to "Draw Normal".
8. Black rectangle.2 votes
