Very very not intuitive, I can CREATE a Biggest "Canvas", but if you have a tyne artboard and like change to a Big canvas, Illustrator CRY.
Why not remove this hurdling? Show Warning messagens to help us to solve probblems like this.

Messages like: "this size is impossible in this document, create a NEW FILE with size you like, some options not work properlly" Something like this!!

you can not edit or change the canvass size of adobe illustrator but you can create a new document by entering your desire bigger art board size and the canvass will be much bigger. For example 50meters x 50meters art board size and the canvass size will be 58meters x 58meters.

It's been updated finally in illustrator with a canvas size of around 164 feet. That's such a huge improvement. Awesome.

Corel draw is indeed the way.

Time to hit adobe where it hurts - subscriptions.

Hello, all of you unhappy Illustrator users who have along with me been requesting adobe for half an eternity to remove the canvas size limit and they are simply deaf.

There is a far less painful and simpler way to go about this. Migrate to Corel Draw ASAP! I think I was crazy when I went from Corel Draw to Illustrator nearly 10yrs ago. Never been happy since. I guess I just did it because I already have been a user of adobe creative suite for yrs.

But in all honesty illustrator does not even begin to compete with Corel Draw - and as far as canvas size limitations I don't know if there is a better vector drawing program out there.

Can I point out that you did not complete the initial request by making a canvas a little bit bigger? Whoever approved a completed state on this issue needs to reevaluate the initial request by reading it careully.

Also the use cases layed below in the comments are not covered at all.

Adobe doesn't have to care about your request any longer. They no longer have to prove that updates are worth paying for. You pay regardless so there is no incentive for them to spend time to make the changes you want. I'm sure the accountants are only allowing fixes and tweaks to keep the software running. Max profits, minimal efforts until the entire thing is gutted and people start leaving.

Is it just me that sees something odd here? The request we all voted on is to "Remove canvas size limit".

The answer from Adobe is, "We'll make the canvas a bit bigger but we're still going to limit you".

And look, someone has got the cheek to mark it as "Completed" - which is funny because the original request I voted for hasn't been completed. Also plenty of people experiencing glitches with the larger format workaround.

Adobe, please can you change the status of this to: "Temporary workaround in place to shut most of you up while we argue about who's turn it is to get more coffee"

Please don't sit back and rely on this glitchy workaround to keep us happy for the next 10 years. Would very much like to see this request completed properly. Really hoping it will be in my lifetime.

You know instead of forcing to start with a canvas above a certain size you should give an option to change the scale in an existing and new documents. Would make this much easier to access

OK.. I just made a new document at 10000x10000mm. Edited the artboard to 4000x5600 and saved too PDF.
It worked..!

going to try this method for all jobs 5000x5000mm in future and see how it goes..

Why this is not working on current documents, I have to copy and paste all the elements/objects to new documents with large canvas bounds.

Please solve this out to enlarge canvas bounds on current documents that made before the new version.

All this does is add a scale factor to any exported PDF if the user selects version 1.6 or higher. The actual PDF page size is still limited to 200x200 inches.*

It is not made obvious anywhere within Illustrator's new document dialogs that a user can make an artboard larger than 200x200 inches should they wish to do so.

*All of this because distiller is still a thing, and is stuck with the 200x200 inch limitation for PostScript thanks to outdated limitations of the windows printer driver.

You'd think this wouldn't be an issue to begin with since we're constantly bombarded with "metric is so much better, it's just moving the decimal place, so easy...!" .....yet people can't seem to figure out how to self-scale their art by dividing by 10. (just move the decimal, it's so easy!)

To increase canvas size, just create a new document and set your artboard size for example 5000 cm width. This will automatically create a larger canvas so it can fit the large artboard in.

So how do we access the new larger canvas settings?
