All other tested Image Softwares displayed the screenshot correctly (Photoshop CC, Preview, Chrome, Safari)

Illustrator currently does not support 16-bit png images. We have taken note of this request.

Can't place RGB 16bit .png files - only 8bit works…

Open your photo in photoshop, go to image/mode/8 bits then save. Change it to 8 bits. Illustrator doesn't read 16 bits, so you have to convert it to 8 bits.

I've been dealing with this for over a year. The best solve I can find is to open them in Finder, then screenshot the image. Then you can import it into Illustrator or Photoshop.
I deal with this on the DAILY, I hope this gets solved soon.Thx

Open your photo in finder, Then go to file/export. Export your photo to a PDF and then you and put it right into Illustrator.
Annoying but the best way I have found.

So awesome how adobe never resolves or even acknowledges common issues that every one is having.

I had the same problem and ended up "printing" the page as a PDF. That will work with a screenshot of a webpage but not of anything else. Very odd snafu.

I have the same problem. Also with changing the screenshot color profile in Photoshop to sRGB or No Profile.
