Layers in folders
Given that Photoshop can group layers into folders, illustrator should have the same capacity to bring the experience closer together.
It would allow for greater flexibility when editing artwork.

100%. For organization of complex artwork (especially when using Illustrator for GUI design mockups) this is essential.

That is a must. For complex projects it is a mess without organising layers in folders (different art-boards must share different layers also). I tried with sub-layers but there are some down-side effect. For example compatibility with other adobe products like Animate, it put each sub-layer in the same layer when importing an illustrator file.

Agreed! It would also let us finally organize massively complex illustrations. Both Photoshop and InDesign have this feature, c'mon guys!
Agreed. Working on a giant layered world map and would like to organize it :/

When I use layers in Illustrator I end up with a chaos of layers.
I think that is better if we can organize all layers in folders like Photoshop does.
Please, Adobe Illustrator team, add this feature!
OMG yes. I just came here to suggest the same thing.
For *reasons*, I've had to edit lots of CAD-exported maps over the last few years, which come through as MANY layers. I just had to merge tons of them together to get down from 95 layers to 40-some. I'd really rather be able to keep them separate and dump them into folders instead.

I wonder why is there no layers group in Illustrator like there is in Photoshop?
Christopher Clinton commented
Layer groups like photoshop with folders would be a huge help to help manage workflow and keep working layers visible. Please add the ability to group layers in illustrator!
I specifically visited this site to request this feature. #performance #efficiency #UI
Like if we could group layers in Photoshop and name it will be super.
