When you start doing complicated work with a lot of effects, you start getting the above-mentioned dialogue. It is incredibly unhelpful: which of the several thousand objects in my illustration is causing problems? What layer is the offending object on? Where in the appearance stack did things go awry? Maybe I'd like to find out which object caused this - how about a button to select the offending object, unlocking whatever containing objects may be locked?

To make an analogy for the programmers: imagine if your compiler just said "some errors happened while compiling your project", and didn't even tell you which file had the offending code, never mind the line number or the type of error you made. Give us poor artists better diagnostics to figure out what the heck's going on, please.

Some users still find confusing setting opacity to whole layer.
When they change opacity value in Transparency palette with no art selected, it does nothing or (if 'New Art has Basic Appearance' is unticked in Appearance palette options) applied to new objects.

The way transparency is set for a layer in AI is not that obvious, compared to Photoshop's way, and require from user knowledge of working with appearance.

I propose this:
1. Make a shortcut for 'Target Current Layer' command, which is not anywhere now (or even 'Target Selected', which will target current layer, if nothing is selected)
2. Add 'Target Layer' button to Transparency palette, when nothing is selected, in the empty area, where selected artwork thumb is usually displayed

These will give users ability to quickly target layer and set it's opacity, both mouse and keyboard oriented.

Problem Description:
I change reference point all the time.
I'm so tired of grabbing a mouse and searching for a reference grid and precisely clicking in tiny-tiny square.
Please add a possibility to set a hotkey for each position!

Look, there is a whole numbers block at the right side of a keyboard (if you are not using these fancy ***** castrated versions which doesn't have it). I could have used it to set reference point, using something like Ctrl+Shift+3 to set it to the right bottom.
I can use an action for doing this, bit I'm long ago out of F-keys, exactly because simple operations, like Align buttons, can't be hotkeyed!

Please! Hotkeys!
'Performance' is not only processing speed, it's also about speed of user interaction. User would always be the weakest part of the process, why would you limit it?
Please allow us to automate tasks more!

Two ideas, both aimed at creating smoother curves:

1. curvature combs:
   an additional visual aid that could be enabled/disabled via hotkey or option on a panel that assists the artist/user in evaluating whether a curve is continuously smooth, or whether it needs adjustment. See this blog for a quick coded breakdown:

Note that I'm not suggesting that the illustrator team rip-off anybody else's software, but I think these sorts of tools/assists would be handy for quite a few users who require more than the typical "eyeball-it" precision illustrator offers currently.

A Panel full of INDICATORS. These indicators show whether:

• Smart Guides are on or off on
• Lock Guides is toggled on or off
• Snap to Grid is toggled on or off
• Snap to Pixel is toggled on or off
• Lock Perspective Grid is toggled on or off

Opening the View Menu constantly do in order to check which options are toggled on or off is annoying and a waste of time. An on-screen GUI element in the form of another snap-in panel with two-state buttons for each option (one highlighted state for "on", another greyed-out state for "off") would be ideal. Or maybe these indicators could be added to the Control Panel or Properties Panel.

I just noticed as I was writing this, that there is already an indicator of sorts for Snap to Pixel on the Control Bar, but there are none for the rest.

I work for screen and print media simultaneously in different files
I work in metric units.
I need to have 'mm' for general-stroke-type in design for printing and 'px' in other file for screen.
I'm so tired to change units every time I Ctrl+Tab between them. By hand, every time!
Ctrl+Shift+U change only general units, and I have to skip all picas-inches I never use.
I have to Ctrl+K, click Units and drop down three menus every time I need to see units I need in file I need!
PostScript is cool, point reassigned as a strict fraction of an inch is cool, so USA don't notice much when points-pixels turn into inches.
But other people, living in huge metric world, freak out seeing grid step 28,35px instead of previously set 10mm and 35,28mm instead of 10px!
Bind units to file already!

Adobe marketing team decides what to display as splash screens. Sometimes the choice is great, and sometimes is not, much more often, to some of us.

And since the Illustrator splash screen is what we see often, and it obviously influence our thought and mood, we’d like to have options to customize it.

We can access the image ourselves, all of them are stored along with other version for different resolution screens at
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2022\Support Files\Contents\Windows\aiccsplash.png (on Windows)
and packed in the application in Contents\Resources\ (on Macs),
but this feels like a hack.

What if we can have:
A) a loading interface that takes an image provided and updates the resources
B) an ongoing challenge, where every enthusiast can submit an artwork, using a hashtag or something similar, and the most upvoted gets picked for the next splashscreen
C) an algorithm that picks an artwork randomly and automatically from the Behance top, each time Ai launches, with customization options, like Windows can do for its desktop wallpapers
B) an option to turn off the image at all (some prefer CS3 style)

Creativity for all, right?
