My new Adobe Illustrator seems to be totally in Black and white and grey scale. Where do I find the colour option in it?

Highlight Pantone swatch in Pantone palette
It used to be when you selected a pantone swatch in your palette, it would highlight the same pantone swatch in the pantone pallete. Somehow in the last couple years, this feature has been lost. The reason it is helpful is I can quickly find my pantone and pick a color deeper or lighter than it by looking to the left or right of that swatch. Right now, to find a pantone color, I need to type in the color and of course the only result is going to be that color. I can't see what is to the right…

Add a Spot Colors channel to the Separations Preview window
Add a "Spot Colors" channel to the "Separation Preview" window. Like you have in Acrobat. See screenshot attached. This will make toggling through the spot colors a LOT more easier and efficient. Then having to turn on and off each spot color individually.

Open the color picker with a single click
In Photoshop and XD the color pickers open with a single click. I can't think of any reason why we need to double click in illustrator

The ability to switch 2 colours around when both are selected
Working on a logo at the moment and was thinking that it could be helpful if there was an 'inverse' option in illustrator, or the ability to switch 2 colours around if you have both objects selected at the same time, e.g. black becomes white and white becomes black. Possibly only possible if you have global colour selected on both colours? Very handy when 'sketching' ideas and quickly need to switch colours.

Multiple Color Assignment - NIGHTMARE
At some point Illustrator added some kind of multiple color assignment where a shape could be assigned a color and then also the group it's in could be assigned a different color or something like this. I just want to say that this "feature" has cost me so much wasted time trying to change the color of an object. It makes the eyedropper not work correctly and making a simple color change become a nightmare because it has it has multiple assignments and it just won't change colors and you have hit "no fill" a bunch of times to clear…

Illustrator Swatch Panel to behave like InDesign
Colours should always be global.
If a colour is deleted, it can be replaced with another.
Global colours don't get converted to Spot colours when added to CC Library

not grayscale color as default, or set other color setting as a default
I know that you can change the color mode in color window. But it's really pain in the *ss to do it every time I create a new document.
and the idea setting grayscale as a default for every document with every color mode is ridicolous . (why Illustrator not changing it since it's way too inconvinient)
Idk the history of Illustrator etc. and I won't be bothered by it, I just want to have an option to change the default color setting. that's it.2 votes -

Repeating pattern random recolor art
The merger of Recolor Art and the idea of variations in the context of repeating patterns. The Recolor Art needs a slot like interface where the user can store several variations on a theme into 'alt slots' these could be accessed by the repeating pattern algorithm to generate a more diverse result. Perhaps with variations on size and rotation of the constituent elements.

Add colors from toolbar to swatches in Illustrator
I would like to suggest that you should add a feature of "Add to swatches" from Indesign to Adobe Illustrator also. As you'd know in Indesign when we right click in ToolBar on froreground color or Outline we can simply add the color to swatches easily, but in illustrator we have to drag forcefully and drop it in Swatches panel.
Attached is a screenshot from Indesign and Illustrator Workspaces for your reference.3 votes -
Freeform gradient live update option
While live update is a nice thing to have (we still wait until you make all draggable art live updated), it's still not very fast.
Please make an option to turn off live update for freeform gradients, so a fill would update only when you release fill points.3 votes -
Separation preview with values on hover
Just like in InDesign there should be the value of each channel on the exact spot (while you are hovering over any point on your artwork)
Here the difference between AI and ID (each while hovering over an image)
It's hard to check color values without (at the moment you have to put the finished .ai into a InDesign document, activate separation view there and check each point.) For printing you have a minimum requirement of 3%-7% (depending on the technique like offset or gravure printing) in each channel to make sure it actually prints. Otherwise it may not! It…

color swatch meta fields assignment feature
please add a few extra fields to give greater depth to the swatches
i noticed that you have nicely chosen names like history etc for the theme swatch libraries yet when i go to create a new swatch the panel does not give me the option to attach a meta descriptor tag cloud to the color swatch, think about how this feature works on full images in the bridge. how excellent this would be at the swatch level. we could search for swatches by meta tag, i could see a dedicated program for using a eye dropper tool and assigning…2 votes -

Instantly swap two colors
I've been making icons and when I have to reverse them to be on a dark background it would be great to be able to do that with one click.

Make the hex code box visible for all color modes on the color panel. Not just RGB modes.
I only ever use HSB to dial in my color and it slows me down to double click on the color to only have to copy the hex code in a different window. The only modes that currently have a box that displays the hex code are RGB or WebsafeRGB. This is missing for all other modes such as HSB, CMYK and Grayscale. Make the hex code box visible for all color modes on the color panel, please.
7 votesThis filed is now visible in Color panel for all the color modes, starting version 27.6.1.
There is no way to disable it though, so if you want to be able to turn it off — upvote the request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/47027617

Enable multiple paint bucket selections at once
I use the paint bucket feature quite a bit on architectural drawings. One area of every drawing I work on has thousands of very small areas ... and I currently have to zoom in to make sure I fill every tiny closed area. It would be great if I could select a whole area (that included hundreds of smaller closed areas that I wanted to paint all the same color) ... and then color them all at once. This would save me (my company) 100 hours a week or more. Hope you can add this feature!!

"View colors as Word"
Adobe apps and Office do not play well together.
Even in RGB graphics in Illustrator don't translate well in Word. Can there be a "View As..." option to show how Word will translate them?
Or....ORRRRRRRRRRR....(this is what SHOULD happen...)
Everyone jump on Microsoft and bully them into adding a CMYK color space to Word/Office.1 vote -
Change conversion of black when going from RGB to CMYK
Please change the default behavior when converting a file from RGB color space to CMYK color space to make RGB black convert to 100% black. Currently and for years, Illustrator converts it to a rich black, with high values in each ink. It's very common to have to take artwork created in RGB and covert it to CMYK for print, and the default conversion for black is never usable. Please make it practical and have 0,0,0, RGB black convert to Cyan 0, Magenta 0, Yellow 0, Black 100.
