Convert embedded images between different formats/compression schemes...
Currently, if I embed an image as a TIF, the resulting AI file will be larger than if I embed the same image as a JPEG. It would be nice if I could convert embedded images between file formats and have control over compression methods / levels so that I could convert the embedded TIF to something lighter in size such as a JPEG - all from within illustrator.

Optional EPS with artboard multi-file save
When saving an EPS with artboards, Illustrator produces two files. Please make this optional – I just want to save the one EPS with artboard. However, Illustrator makes a copy and labels it Filename_01.eps. Thank you!

Export PSD from Illustrator
Could you please help me to improve your product. I want to export PSD from Illustrator that can keep the shape and I can edit the color of this shape on photoshop. Now when I export PSD, all the shapes are rasterized. Because I usually design the website on illustrator. After that, I export to Photoshop. And I use this photoshop to upload to Invision. So that I need the shape is original.

Make Asset Export settings Per-Project not Global
It doesn't make sense to have global settings for Asset Export, as the exporting requirements vary between projects. Each project should have its own Asset Export settings so this doesn't have to be set up every time when exporting from different projects with different settings.
Changing back and forward is time consuming and error prone.

Retrieving an unsaved file
Enable an option to retrieve a file within a certain time period, that was closed but not saved. This would be useful when a file is closed in error. This happened to me and I lost a days work. Silly error but easily done as I had a swatch box obscuring the file tab and closed it by mistake. Unfortunately because I then tried to reopen the file, the snapshot in the data recovery file was the re opened unsaved version so I had lost all of the previous 4 hours work.
Therefore, if it was possible that AI could…5 votes -
I cannot see my file when I open it into Illustrator. The app opens but the file is hidden.
I cannot open my files into Illustrator. I try to open it but the app launches but no file is visible. I try to "Open file…" and it says that it is already opened. I cannot see it. I can only see it if I go to "Arrange" and "Float windows". This is a new issue.

Checkbox for prefix with filename when exporting for screens
When exporting for screens, it would be useful to be able to simply click a checkbox to prefix the output filename with the current filename.
For example, for "myFile.ai", containing artboards "Artboard1", "Artboard2", etc., it would output "myFile-Artboard1.png", "myFile-Artboard2.png", etc.
I realise the filename can be entered in the Prefix field but a checkbox would be a useful addition.

Save Session
Sometimes when working on a project I'll have a few tabs open. I know I can save all the files in one spot and open them when needed but the ability to recall a set of tabs to open when needed would be great. That way I can shut down a full project, start a new one and then come back to the previous tabs when needed.
I'm thinking under File adding a prompt to "Save Session" > Name the session.
To open the session have it under File > Open Session
Sometimes I'll leave illustrator open with way to…

File Specific "Export For Screen" Settings (mainly location)
As a designer with multiple files,
I want the ability to set the export for screens folder per file,
So that I don't have to constantly relocate the location of the output for each file I open up. It would be helpful to get **** done.- When exporting a file the location identified for the first time is saved for subsequent times I access to export.

DWG Export - export Visible layers only
Have an option to export only visible layers to DWG.
When exporting a DWG have an option to export only visible layers,
this would work in a similar way to export selected items only, but would save unlocking all layers you want to export and selecting the items.3 votes -
Export for Screen Quality of export
Not sure if it has been asked or discussed (spent way to much time searching for it and not finding it) but the "export for screens" exports terrible quality - mostly for jpg.
The quality is jagged and blurry when exporting a large graphic with text that has been outlined. Yet, when I use the legacy export for the same width and size I want, the quality is far superior whilst still having a small footprint in size.
Why is the legacy export, in any format, so much better than the "export for screens" that you have made default?
Often…
12 votesPlease provide comparison screenshots for the designs you can see a clear difference between these two export methods.
There is a related bug report, and perhaps the quality discussed here is actually a bug: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/38987995
Even if it’s somethings else, it’s not OK the request about image quality does not have a single image as an example. Please share!

Import plt (hpgl) files
I want to import plt files directly in Illustrator.
Today I have to use an online converter or import the plt file using Front Design or even CorelDraw.
This file (.plt) is generated by the Audaces program.
No even the dxf file exported by Audaces is imported by Illustrator. The Illustrator only import the code instead.4 votes -

Choose which version of PDF when saving an Illustrator file as .ai with PDF compatibility.
When saving an Illustrator file with PDF compatibility, the default version of Acrobat is 5, (PDF Version 1.4) which creates issues with transparencies, when placing that .ai file into another .ai file for layout.
I would like to be able to choose which version of Acrobat and PDF to be compatible with when saving an .ai file with PDF compatibility.7 votes -
Move close button away from save in File menu
Moving the Close button away from the Save button, maybe to just below Revert
Sounds like a sad fix but having the Save button right below the Close has caused me to lose original works due to accidentally pressing Save instead of close when i don't to save the changes made.
This has happened when my mouse has had a sudden glitch and not moved the .5mm needed to press the correct button. worse when you can't undo due to hitting the maximum number of undos
Not a major issue but anyone that has done this would know the pain…

Text to outlines on save PDF
My printers require fonts to be outlined. This is a huge hassle. I need to convert everything to outlines, save the PDF, and then remember to undo my outlining before I save the AI file.

import chart data from Excel or CSV
Need to be able to import data from an Excel (or at least a CSV) file, to create chart with Charting tool. Rather antiquated to have to copy/paste to get data for a chart. (In more than 30 years of using AI, I've NEVER been given a data file in TXT format--the only option currently available to import graph data.)
