Soft selection (Selection drop off)
This already exists in many 3D applications (Maya, 3D Max, and C4d, for sure) and it's often treated, not as a separate tool, but as a setting in the regular selection tools. The idea is that you can set an gradient influence area where the points directly selected are affected 100% by transform changes, while everything else is affected by the changes but adjusted to the alpha percentage of the gradient at that point's initial location. I know that sounds like a mouthful, but it's very similar to how the mesh warp works (minus the having to convert anything and retaining full control of all your points individually at all times).
Here's a tutorial of how the tool works in Maya:

Please update to allow newer Pantone swatches to be usable.
For years Pantone's new colors have been released, yet I can't upload those books into Illustrator. So for years I've been able to see colors I can't use. Super frustrating. I use the Coated Color Bridge book in spot and cmyk. If I'm doing something wrong, PLEASE enlighten me!
79 votesAs stated in the article linked below, Pantone’s licensing with Adobe got changed.
Due to this change, customers will need to purchase Pantone Connect licenses to access Pantone colors in Adobe Creative Cloud products.

Split paths by currently applied dash settings
Hi - I was directed here via adobe and illustrator support teams on twitter.
I'm submitting a suggestion for a function or feature for adobe illustrator in which the user may subdivide a dashed path into individual smaller paths, by the measurement and placement of said dash style. I have seen many different suggestions and workarounds for this over the past few years but none actually execute this specific action. (Setting to .0001 stroke, expanding, then deleting excess points isn't ideal!)
In my current role, and in our office, we design and create physical package design comps. we frequently use perforations in our designs, often with custom spacing, and use illustrator as a hand-off program for graphics and pre-cad conversion. Currently, the cad programs we use do not read or accept each other's different perforation styles (perhaps the programs see them just as that - styles, thus the paths aren't actually altered). Therefore this suggestion aims to use illustrator, the middleman program for our process, to subdivide a path via its dashes during the design process which in turn translates into a custom perforation in our final comp.
Attached file shows how the function might look/act
Thanks for your time!

More Detail in Font Find/Replace - Include Details to Assist Tracking Down Correct Font
When working with files that reference missing fonts, sometimes it is necessary to find the exact font but there is little to go on other than the font name displayed. If font information was stored such as version, type of font (TrueType, OpenType, Type-1, etc...), foundry, version, date, etc...it would make it far more efficient to track down the correct font.
For example, when working with product labels, etchings or logos often it is necessary to use the exact font to maintain consistency in manufactured products. Having little more to go on than a name makes it extremely difficult. This feature would save a lot of time!
It would be even more helpful if you could find a way to identify a font where information has not been stored yet...but I wouldn't cry over that.

Make gradient swatches global
Gradient swatches should be globally applicable. This would mean they´d need to be editable - either in Swatch Options just like other swatches or replacable by dragging a altered version of a gradient onto the old swatch. (At the moment, the only option is the swatch title)

Remove survey requests from app
Give users some way to disable in-app survey request popups. Simply clicking the X does NOT prevent it from popping up again in the future.
How about moving this request out of the program so it doesn't appear during a long, automated batch operation for example (and can't be dismissed BTW). Adobe has our email addresses, just send the request there. OR move survey notifications to the CC Desktop App. That's a nice central location that does not impinge on production activities in any of the apps.

Eliminate the Adobe Search Pane in the top right of illustrator
Adobe does not seem to be able to fix the problem of Adobe search being selected by default when a file is opened. I use a master layout page & am constantly pasting art I have copied to the pasteboard into the stupid, virtually useless Adobe search window. It immediately hangs Illustrator which eventually crashes.
This bug is ridiculously enraging. I cannot believe Adobe has not addressed this. It can't just be me having this issue
6 votesThe search bar in the top right corner is gone and is replaced with a button with a magnifier icon — it now calls the new Discover window.
Please check how you like it now and reply back. -

New Artboard Automatically Generated - No Preview Available
When a new artboard is generated, it is now automatically placed to the right of the active artboard. Previously, generating a new artboard would show a preview and allow me to place wherever I wanted.
I work frequently with nested artboards, and when I want to create a new artboard within the active artboard, I am taken away from the area I am viewing, which is frustrating. I now have to zoom out, turn off 'move with artboard' so that no art is interrupted, move the new artboard to the area I originally wanted it to be in, zoom in and adjust, then turn 'move with artboard' back on. I do this often, which adds many steps and time to my workflow.

Real-time file collaborative editing, with multiple users at once
I would suggest that Illustrator can open a file on several devices, perhaps 2 or 3 max. and allow a team of designers to work and brainstorm on the same file at the same time as an online service from Adobe.
This can be used for other adobe design programs as well such as Photoshop.24 votes -
Link pictures from Variable Panel
When setting variables into variable panel, we can't auto add links addresses to variable, and need to add them into external xml or csv files. If we will add "Links" into variable panel we can click on folder icon and auto load link address into variable panel.

Need to select all artboards and resize them at once by entering desired size.
Need to select and change all artboard size at once. Can we have this feature in Illustrator? Because after design we need to prepare artworks from same file so we need to increase artboard sizes to add crop marks and other details of instructions for printer, It will be easier if we can change this in artboard window or from document setup.
3 votesIn latest version we can select multiple artboards and resize each one at once.
Please comment back if it’s still not solved for you.

Width Tool Numeric Control
When using the Width Tool to manipulate the width of a stroke, it would be helpful to have the option to alt+click and enter the desired width in a dialog box, in a similar fashion to the Rotate Tool.

SVG export option to export global Color Swatches as CSS Custom Properties
In addition to classes and IDs, CSS custom properties (aka. CSS variables) are a great way to style SVG Content.
Conceptually they are closest to Illustrators global color swatches.I propose to add an Option to SVG Export of Adobe Illustrator to turn named global color swatches into CSS custom properties.
Example:
Original Output:
fill: #456; stroke: #abc;New Output:
fill: var(--medium-grey, #456) ; stroke: var(--dark-grey, #abc);Web applications could use the custom properties, to quickly create color-variations of an illustration.
Example: https://codepen.io/g12n/pen/KQwpJR/
An additional option could be a compatibility mode for the styling options "Inline Style" and "Internal CSS", that adds an additional fallback for browsers, that don't support custom properties at all:
fill: #456; fill: var(--medium-grey, #456);
This fallback should be opt-in, since it increases file size.
Use-Cases:
- Theming of Icon-Sets (like http://www.streamlineicons.com/ux/)
- Branding and Color Variations
- Definition of CMYK and Spot Colors Versions in Print Stylesheets or other applicable Media
- Animating Color Transitions with CSS (example: https://codepen.io/g12n/pen/aEMaNz/)

Ability to change resolution when setting pixels as a unit
I use Illustrator for UX design, and thus I use pixels for the dimensions. However, the resolution of most modern screens, in mobile phones, and other devices, is not the default 72 ppi. Thus, when I switch between units, the pixel size does not equal what I get in millimeters. (For usability issues, e g mm based letter height is crucial.)
I know Photoshop is more of a pixel oriented tool, but doing vector graphics and using Illustrator is an advantage in terribly many places. (There is a reason for Sketch being a popular replacement...) Adding a way to customize the units or customizing the pixel resolution would benefit me and my entire team of 15 people, very much.

Change shortcut for paste in place/paste on all artboards to match Indesign
I'm in a workflow where I work simultaneously with Illustrator and Indesign, linking illustrator files to indesign (they could probably be integrated more!).
However, it is probably my most irritated moments when I realize I have used cmd-alt-shift-V (shortcut to paste in place in Indesign) instead of cmd-shift-V. If you work on one artboard, it looks the same, and you don't realize your mistake until you go to another artboard and see that the pasted thing has been pasted on all artboards. And you've worked far enough to not having the possibility to undo...
2 votesYou can customize your hotkeys in Keyboard Shortcuts dialog. Search 'paste' and change 'Paste on All Artboards' to anything else or remove shortcut completely.

Put eyedroppers on every color selection menu.
I keep getting the request from my students that they want to use colors from their existing project. In color, color guide, color themes, gradient color menu, there's no good way to grab a specific color from the art boards. Putting eyedroppers on ALL the color sub menus would make it so convenient to grab the color of someones eye, various colors in existing blends. For example, if a student wanted to make a gradient of two different colors from her eye, she could not do so simply. Currently the eyedropper only appears to hover over a one inch rgb color bar. Or if I want to change the color of a swatch from yellow pintuck plaid to be more red to match one of the colors in the sunset, it would take a great deal of back and forth, rather that just scrolling over the image I have in front of me.

Remember Pathfinder Options across sessions
Currently, the Pathfinder Options are not remembered across Illustrator sessions. This can be tested with the following steps.
- Launch Illustrator.
- Via the Pathfinder panel, use the flyout menu to open Pathfinder Options.
- Set the precision to anything other than 0.028 pt.
- Quit and relaunch Illustrator.
- Reopen the Pathfinder Options. The precision has been set back to 0.028 pt.
It would also be good if the Pathfinder Options were able to be recorded as an action. It seems like a bug that they can not now — recording an action for it appears to work, and there is a Pathfinder Options item, but the action does nothing.

Create a version of Illustrator for crafters - no 3D, but with border feature etc in order to work with digital cutters without expense
So it would be a entry level version of illustrator - concentrating on 2D output to SVG for electronic cutters, plotters and other crafting tools. Similar to Photoshop elements but for those needing to work with vector files.

In Tablet Mode, we need the use of modifier keys like Shift, Alt, and Control. Can't constrain proportions when resizing w/out keyboard!
In Tablet Mode, we need the use of modifier keys like Shift, Alt, and Control. Right now, we can't constrain proportions when resizing w/out the Shift key on a keyboard. If we have a floating toolbar of modifier keys like Shift, that problem would be solved. Even better if a gesture could take the place of holding Shift.
