1. Layer Comps

   Layer Comps like Photoshop but for Illustrator. If you do this, it should fix the problem of showing all the layers when I toggle the solo on and off. I love the solo but it would be nice if the solo remembered what layers were already off when I toggled the solo on. If this was try then when I toggle the solo off, the off layers should stay off.

2. Show Contentpreview in hidden layers

   When you hide a layer, the contentpreview in the little square in the Layers Panel is hidden. Finding a specific layer is terrible when it’s hidden (you only see the layers name).

   That makes absolutely no sense to me and has no benefit that I can think of, to the contrary.

   Please make it at least an option, or just make the Layerpreview always visible. I can see that it’s hidden when I see the eye canceled on the right, no need for more indication that its hidden.

3. Master Illustrator File Placed in Multiple Illustrator Files OR Export Selected Layers Palette

   In my line of work, we often time work in one single Illustrator file that has one basemap then multiple layers with each showing a specific thing separate from the other layers. However this gets tedious when exporting files where you have to select the layers you want, export as it's own name, deselect those layers and select the next batch of layers, export those under their own name, deselect those layers etc.

   What would be great is if Illustrator had the ability to have something like a Master Layer that can bring in a basemap Illustrator file to have in the back of multiple files so I can just export normally with the ability of the Master Layer updating when you make changes to the linked file.

   Otherwise, an option to choose what layers to export as what would be great too. Perhaps there's an Add Export Option in a window where you can select which layers to export and what the file format and name should be and a + button next to it to add another export option and when you're done, clicking the Export All button at the bottom

5. make one layer from more layers like in photoshop

   Hello, I would really like it if different layers could be used to create one layer, just like in photoshop.
   (so if you work with a lot of layers, and you repeat the design on the same page, or want to create a pattern, this doesn't work)
   I very much hope that this will be possible in the future

   You can do that using Layers panel’s menu (a hamburger icon in top right corner). Select layers you need and choose one of three available commands: Merge Selected, Flatten Artwork, Collect in New Layer.

   Also, you can operate with a selection of object on canvas. Select object you need there, focus a layer you want you objects to be in and apply Object > Arrange > Send to Current Layer.

   Finally you can drag a square marker of a selected objects in Layers to another layer to move them.

   Please comment on how it works for you.

6. Previous versions of illustrator showed the id of individual elements within layers in the layers window

   Previous versions of Illustrator would show the id of individual elements within layers in the layers window. Now they just show as "path" or "compound path." I generate maps as svg files from a database with a program of my own design and then import them into Illustrator for final editing. Sometimes there is a problem with one or more elements. Before I could go to Illustrator, select the problem element, and see in the layers window what its id was. Then I could go to my database and fix the problem. I can't do this anymore. I'm attaching a simple svg file as an example. Most of them have many more elements.

8. Can we please have layers control of some level in Touch workspace?

   Not having any control over layers in touch mode make it almost impossible to use. Touch workspace already have a nice interface but having to go back and forth from one workspace to another just to change layer makin life hard.

9. Make Layers show which operation a compound shape uses, like 'Compound Shape (Subtract)'

   Compound shapes have 4 different modes, and sometimes it’s important to be able to see which one is used when you work with the resulting shapes in Layers — especially if you nest shapes in several layers.. But at the moment Illustrator just display all of them as just 'Compound Shape'.

   Compare these two structures:

   ......> Ellipse

10. Scrollable tabs and more usable Layers panel

    I would like if the Ai interface was less "cluttered" and "manual" to use.

    Specifically, as in the case of having many tabs open than they fit in the viewport, I have to click on the double chevrons (>>) to only be able to open one file at a time. Rather, would you guys consider making it scrollable? Or have the Layers panel open like Adobe Xd (aids renaming and hiding/locking)?

    As for a more "usable" Layers panel, I would appreciate if the panel could make it easier to name and select layers. For example, if I have an item in the artboard selected, I don't need to select the little blue dot (see attached photo) for it to register that it's actually selected on the artboard, especially if I'm selecting more than one item. I end up having to hold Shift to select the Layers in the panel, and then clicking again on EVERY blue icon to select the items on the artboard (e.g. for grouping purposes). If this can be changed, I would truly appreciate it - it really helps with renaming and grouping layers!!

11. Preferences for layers panel

    Obviously there are a lot of ideas and requests for the layers panel because everyone wants to customize it for their own uses. Adding a bunch of options in the preferences panel would be better than a lot of "permanent" changes.

    I don't like the fact that every element is on a separate layer at all, for my projects it is not necessary. In InDesign I get to choose what elements are on which layer - that would be sooooooo nice in Illustrator

12. Ability to select & rearrange invisible (switched off) layers and objetcs

    It is incredibly annoying when I'm trying to group, move or rearrange objects or layers, only to be told by Illustrator that I need to turn visibility on before I can do any of this. Why?

    In Photoshop I can move layers which are switched off with no complaints. It is a ludicrous process in AI to have to turn on a layer's visibility, move it, then turn it off again. And VERY annoying.

13. On fixing the hierarchy of layers

    On fixing the hierarchy of layers.

    In data with a large number of layers, such as a map, the vertical relationship and stacking order of objects is very important. We are very careful not to make mistakes, but there are times when our hands slip and we end up moving them.
    At the moment we can lock objects, but we can always manipulate the vertical relationship of objects.
    If there is a lot of demand for the ability to lock the vertical relationship other than mine, I would like to see improvements.

14. Keep non-visible Layers from showing on PDF.

    This was not a problem in the past. If you save as a PDF, layers which are OFF will appear in the PDF. Wrong. Bad. Why? Obviously not what the user intended. Bad programming. Please fix.

16. Add 'Paint Brush Mode' to highlight and actually select multiple objects or groups in Layers panel

    Add functionality like the view (eyeball ) icon cursor- as you drag down the list in the selection column of the layers menu, the cursor goes into "paint brush" mode and continues to select or deselect items. Also add "Select all objects and groups on highlighted layers or sub layers" to the dropdown function menu.

    An indented way to achieve this now is to create a simple action.

    1. Create an action

    2. Select some art

    3. Create a new Layer with a button in the Layers panel

    4. Object > Arrange > Send to Current Layer

    5. End recording

    Actions are great for automating various routines we have in Illustrator, and this is just one of them. If you think it still should be a native operation instead (or an action to be included in standard Actions pack) — please vote and comment.

19. Custom layer colors, layer 5 yellow is killing me

    Can i please change the default layer colors so that layer 5 is not always yellow? I set up files all day long and yellow on white is ******* the eyes, would love to be able to set a default layer color for the first 5 or six new layers. Thank you.

    Thanks for the feedback. The color yellow has been removed altogether as a layer color, and has been replaced by Magenta color for Layer 5. This functionality is available in our latest release build – 24.1.1 for Win and 24.1 for Mac which is available worldwide now.

20. No outline for an empty layer’s thumbnail in Layers panel

    In a previous edition of Ai, when in the layers palette and having a layer with no content, the thumbnail square didn't have an outline. Now it has an outline and leads you to believe there is content there.

    Why did you change it? Leave it without an outline so you can delete it without the extra steps of looking for content you might not see (being white) or want to delete.

    I feel both Adobe and Apple make changes just to makes changes and justify someone's job. I really resent the accumulation of constant unnecessary changes and this is just another small thing to annoy.
