Layers Panel: Layers Name Available Width
I like my Layers Panel thumbnails to be large, like really large, larger than 'Large' for sure, so that i can easily see what's going on. I also like to name my layers briefly but accurately for the same reason. I don't have a big, wide screen however, so for me every tiny width saving matters. And here i come to the thing that infuriates me: why does Illustrator already trim layers names when there is still plenty room for them to be displayed in full?

Stop tool panel from changing
I would like to be able to lock the tool panel. At the moment tools are always moving around. For example, a seleciton tool (black arrow) frequently disappears. It's a pain when I'm typing because I can't switch to a selection tool by using a shortcut "V" and I have to select a white arrow first and then press "V" to make the black arrow visible again. Horrible!

Ability to rename fills, strokes, effects in Appearance Panel
Ability to name each item in Appearance panel, like with the layers.
Example: Fill: Bottom Background Shade, Stroke: Top Left White Light etc.
This would let us easily get around complex objects.

Transform Shortcuts / Enter the transform panel with a keyboard shortcut
I want to be able to transform an object using the keyboard.
For example, in Sketch, I can manipulate an object by holding the command key (optionally with a 10x Shift-key modifier) and using the arrow keys to increase or decrease the height or width of an object. This tends to be easier than using the mouse or the Transform panel when making quick modifications. (Also, less painful for arthritic users!)
Please consider it.

We need Watermark Panel
I have suffered several times from clients who have steals my work and doesn’t pay the remaining 50% of the contract because it is a tedious job to make changes to a design and add, each time I need to export the artboard a watermark.
It would be great to have a panel or a checkbox to apply a watermark to the entire artboard and that way we defend ourselves against bad clients easier.
And if we can add our custom watermark, much better.

Bring Back the Glyphs Panel
I just updated to the latest and greatest Illustrator tonight. I'm in Typography Workspace and for the life of me, I can't find the Glyphs Panel. It appears to be gone. I can see all the other type tools I expect. But, not Glyphs. Is there a different way to access the OT alternate letter forms? The Glyphs Panel used to by under the Windows menu. Not today. :-( I've highlighted individual letters and right clicked on 'em, tried different Workspaces,. etc. No luck. If there is another way to access alternate letter forms, I'd love to know what…

"Use preview bounds" option in stroke panel
Please add the "use preview bounds" option not only available in the presets, but also in the stroke panel (e.g. with a checkmark) to make it easier to switch it on / off. That would make icon design much faster.

use of Info panel for graph elements
When working with a graph, use the Group Select tool to select one element of the graph. In earlier versions (prior to ~2016 or 2017?), the Info panel displayed the size/position of that element. Why was that feature DROPPED? Please reinstate that bit of code--there is no other way to determine the size of any element (except to copy and paste it, then delete it).
Better yet, if the Transform panel was active for a graph element, it would make it so much easier to control the size of each path. (I'm looking at you, tick marks, which are seemingly…3 votes -
Option to Reset Character & Paragraph Panel
Provide an option or a button to reset all the values of the character and paragraph panel.

Mark layers/sublayers in the layers panel
We used to be able to easily tell layers and other containers apart in the Layers panel. Layers/sublayers were marked with a darker or lighter background in the Layers panel.
This is important for several functionality that can be applied to groups but not layers and vice versa. Particularly when you deal with complex artwork such as puppets for Character Animator, but not limited to them. And you need it when analyzing other peoples' files.2 votes -

the ability to zoom in on the gradient panel for complex gradients. If I am creating a gradient some time I feel like I need to zoom into the panel so I can ensure I get the color pointers as accurate as possible
3 votesYou can grab the edge of the Gradient panel and resize it, making the gradient strip larger.

Reinstate The Functionality Of The Swatches Panel In CS 5.5
I’d like to see the functionality of the Swatch panel that was in (Windows) Ai CS 5.5 reinstated. Specifically, when the panel was opened, I used to be able to toggle through the Color Modes by holding Shift and clicking on the color square (thumbnail). If I held Cntrl, it would toggle to the color compliment. These were two great features that were eliminated with CS 6 through to the current version of CC 2017. Bring these back!!

add point in simplify panel -click art with panel open
with the object / path / simplify feature, it seems like the ability to quickly add a point to the outline by clicking on the artwork, while the panel is open for refinement. the feature in there 'show original outline' combined with this new recommendation would be a very intuitive way to refine a shape.

Add Folders in Layers panel
Given that Photoshop can group layers into folders, Illustrator should have the same capacity to bring the experience closer together.
It would allow for greater flexibility when editing artwork.

Give the Colors panel a useful color picker
Illustrator has a number of different color pickers that appear depending on what particular item you click on, but the one in the color panel is the least useful and most tiring to use.
As far as I can tell, this picker is the Brightness Cube from Photoshop but without the brightness slider that’s needed to make effective use of it. If you use the sliders to adjust saturation or brightness, the change isn’t reflected in the palette square.
With this picker, you can either reduce saturation but with maximum brightness, OR you can reduce brightness but with maximum saturation.…

New Document Panel - make the 'thumbnails' more descriptive.
The New Document Panel tends bring clarity, but the 'Thumbnail', containing a triangle, a square and a circle confuses this. Every size has the same thumbnail. It would be nice if the thumbnail reflects the aspect ration of the preset it belongs to.

Have the Blob Brush Options Panel remain open as you work
It would be great if the Blob Brush Options Panel would remain open while in use, so the stroke angle and brush shape could be changed on the fly while painting. :D

Ability to copy individual effects from the appearance panel to other objects.
currently if you want to copy effects from one object to another your only option is to copy all of its appearance properties. You should be able to drag or copy just one aspect of somethings appearance without effecting the other properties. say i have a transform effect on an object in my appearance panel. currently if i want to apply that to another object i also have to copy the stroke, fill and any other properties that object has. there is no option to copy just that individual transform effect to other objects. this is an unnecessary limitation…

Fix Variables panel scrolling to bottom when making changes
When i'm working with the variables panel, the variables panel is scrolling to the bottom of the list, every time i select a layer in the layer panel or when i link the variable to the layer. Because of this, i have to scroll back to where i was before every time i make a change. I have between 100 and 200 variables in my project, so this make the work time twice as long as it should be.
Can you please make it so that it remember the position and doesn't scroll to the bottom every time.

Relative placement shapes in appearance panel
When you use shapes in appearance panel and save to reuse, then the look you get is depending on the text you type in as these shapes move in relation to the text. If I want to have a square that does not move with the text but at the beginning of text, no matter how long text, then that is impossible. Would be great with more options and fix regarding all this with shapes in appearance panel.
