Can't save files in Catalina
With the new OS Catalina, Illustrator no longer can save, save as or export any file. This is a critical issue. Not sure how it would be missed in testing. is it a known issue and being worked on?
We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 24.0.0
For the issue where you are encountering “An unknown error has occurred” while saving the document then please go to the following link to track the status of this issue:

Hi - some good-ish news. Adobe answered me on Twitter with a workaround fix. I haven't tested it yet but here it is:

Please get this and other CC Catalina issues sorted.
I'm sure it's Apple's fault but sort anyway.
Same here, can't save. Export options work and I can export to a PDF and retain layers but this is a serious issue.
Please fix this. :(

Apparently this problem existed in during the beta of Catalina and was never corrected. This isn’t some small irritating bug. It could lose someone their job. Not being able to save a file? adobe, fix it!
Me also. Can't save or export any new files!

Same here! / MacBook Pro with TouchBar
Issue just started in Illustrator 23.1.1 with Mac OS Catalina 10.15 on MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018, 2.9 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i9.) Rolled back to AI 21.1 and AI 23.0.6 and continued to have the same problem. As everyone else, I can't Save new documents or open Save As dialogue, but I can open and re-save existing files. Based on conversations with fellow designers who've upgraded, it doesn't seem to affect all machines, though. Guessing it's some combination of Mac OS Catalina and MacBook Pros with Touch Bar.
@Jennifer -- I have a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar too. Wonder if that has something to do with it... Everything you described is exactly what I've been experiencing (unfortunately).
After installing Catalina on Mac Pro (10 core), Illustrator do not want to "open", "save", "save as", "save for web" ...very very frustraiting.
Not mentioning that overall performace is really, really bad on Mac Pro. We spent anormos amount of money hoping we can speed up the work and to finad after more than a half a year using it that we spent the money for nothing as Adobe didn't care neough to do something improving the speed of Illustrator. We address it with Apple, they blaim on Adobe...we spoke with Adobe they say it's Apple.... man....
And now after two days of installing, reinstalling, restoring Illustrator won't work and that's it!
VERY , VERY dissapointed Adobe!!!

I am having same issue, post upgrade to Catalina on a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, no function that utilizes a pop up window from Mac file system works in any way. Tried restarting etc. Lost an entire project, however, did drag the project to the library as a graphic and it saved there but only as a complete graphic so it isn't completely usable. (ei. layers not maintained). There was also NO autosave even though that is set to every 2 minutes. I also could not import anything via the place function but could "drag" the file onto the screen. PLEASE FIX ASAP!!!
I have the same issue! I need this for work. Please fix it.
Same thing happening here. Hopefully this gets fixed quick.
same thing happening here. no 'save as' operation is working.
same here. was happening to me in catalina beta. wasn't fixed before GM.
That's good to know. Been dying for a workaround of some sort. Thanks for that. Hopefully this issue gets resolved soon.
I'm having the same issue. Not sure if it's connected to upgrading to the new OS but I have the most recent version of Illustrator so it shouldn't...
Mine is doing the same thing

Whenever I try to save a new file I am unable to save it. Neither the keyboard shortcut nor clicking directly on File> Save As... or Save as Copy... bring up the save dialog box. It's as though those commands are completely unresponsive. The program doesn't freeze or crash and I can continue to work in my document after I attempt to save, but I cannot seem to save any of the work that I've done to a new file. I can however edit and save an existing file in which case the File> Save function seems to be working just fine. Now noticing that a number of menu options are unresponsive. Some work but some don't.
