1. Spots and Globals are converted into process colors when included into Swatch Info

   If we pick several spot or global color swatches to display in Swatch Info, the resulting color chips won’t be using the actual swatches picked — these would become process color copies — while Ink Types are shown as 'Spot' for spots... which are not... and no information about some being 'Global'.

   I realize this connection would have to be monitored, refreshing cards when a swatch is changed...
   But this is what is expected. This is what scripts that offer a similar functionality do.

   If we choose to convert these into process colors, we can just can select one and press the button in the Color panel... yeah, it won’t work for several of these selected, but that’s another problem.

   Ai Beta now keeps spot and global swatches intact when used in Swatch Info. Changing swatches gets updated on canvas, both in values displayed and the color.

2. Artwork gets shifted when an artboard is resized with width and height constrained and Scale Artwork Constrained enabled

   CC 2025 v29.0 introduces the long-awaited "Scale Artwork with Artboard" option. When we drag the transformation frame with the Artboard tool, the objects are scaled synchronously, and the position’s calculated properly.
   However, when we start to enter the width or height of the artboard, with Constrain locked, the objects get shifted relative to the artboard after being scaled.
   The problem has been confirmed on both MacOS and PC.

3. Finder Apps and Adobe Bridge no longer open Adobe Illustrator

   Something changed with the last update that altered the default association between Illustrator files and the application. I first noticed it when my barcode app failed to launch Illustrator upon export—something that had been working perfectly for years. Then, I encountered the same issue in Adobe Bridge: every time I double-click a .ai file, it simply won’t open.

   After investigating, I discovered that the default file association for .ai files had been changed to something called IllustratorDiagnosys (see screenshot). Manually changing this back to Adobe Illustrator within Bridge resolved the issue inside that app, but external applications and links are still not functioning as expected.

   Additionally, resetting Bridge to its default settings restores all .ai file associations to IllustratorDiagnosys 29.3.1.

   It seems that something in the file association preferences was modified, not just affecting Bridge, but the entire system.

4. Eyedropper picks the color of the antialiased edge of a stroke blended with the background instead of the actual stroke color

   Eyedropper requires a ton of precision when picking a color of s stroke.

   I’ve mistaken and used green color instead of violet, and now I want to pick it from the existing line.

   I click, precise enough (I hope), but the color picked — the almost correct violet (C74,95 M74,61 — instead of the global 75-75) — is not in the background at all. It’s a BLENDED color of the RENDERED anti-aliased EDGE of the stroke! So Ai secretly rasterizes what it sees and then checks the tolerance, I assume. And the tiniest overlap leads to these cases. And trust me, this happens a lot.

   We can’t trust the tool.

5. Illustrator 28.4 does not preserve SVG object hierarchy

   Starting with Illustrator 28.4, the object hierarchy is not preserved when saving and re-opening an SVG file. Many groups are created for no apparent reason.

   This makes Illustrator completely impractical for editing SVG files. I will have to stay at 28.3 until this error is fixed.

   The 29.1 update is supposed to have a new Menu Bar under Window->Help Bar but it's not there.

   Help Bar is available only in the latest Beta (starting with 29.2) and Prerelease builds so far. As soon as the team decides it’s ready to be pushed into main build, you’ll be able to get it. At the moment you can install Beta build from CCD app, or just wait.

7. BMP bitmaps are seen as RGB, lose transparency and cannot be coloured in 28.5

   Place a .BMP 1 bit file in AI 28.5. It is seen as RGB and cannot be coloured.
   PSD and TIF bitmaps work fine.

   The bug seems to be fixed in Beta 28.7.0.65

   Please try to update and verify if it now works as intended for you.

8. Type on Path Characters vanish and appear scattered / exploded on far edges of canvas (when zoomed out) if outlined / expanded

   Started in in version 27.7.0
   Reproduction procedures:
   1. Create type on a path in document.
   2. Save the document and close it once.
   3. Open that document and select the text on a path.
   4. Execute command “Outline Text”

   The above procedure will make it all disappear and disappear.
   This phenomenon is not reproduced in Illustrator 2022 or earlier, so it seems to be a 2023-specific bug.

   The issue is believed to be fixed in the latest Beta build and is expected to be pushed into the Global Availability build at the end of July.

   To ensure this indeed fixes the problem, please install the latest Beta build from CCD app and try to reproduce it, following the steps provided by Ton in a comment within the report.

11. Placing an SVG file with View->Snap to Pixel enabled distorts the image

    If I place an SVG file with View->Snap to Pixel enabled, some of the coordinates are displaced. See uploaded example, produced using version 28.3 (64-bit) on Windows 11. Unfortunately, the uservoice website won't let me upload a sample file.

12. Illustrator 27.9 Adobe PDF Preset will match what it was last modified to.

    This seems new to 27.9 and removes confidence in save presets.

    Steps to replicate:
    1) Save file as Adobe PDF format
    2) Select [Smallest File Size] from presets.
    3) Check Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities (note it now says: [Smallest File Size] (Modified))
    4) Click Save PDF
    5) Save file as Adobe PDF format
    6) Select [Smallest File Size] from presets.

    Notice the Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities is now selected. Also notice the preset name hasn’t changed to say it's (Modified).

    This issue seems to be fixed in Illustrator Beta 28.1.0.100.

    Please update it (or install it from CCD, if you don’t have it) and verify if the issue is no longer happening.

13. Clipping Path Dimensions disregarded when exporting JPG in version 28.5

    When using "File -> Export As" to create a JPG of your illustrator document, the size of the JPG includes artwork hidden by a clipping path and adds white space. Attached is an example where I've exported a JPG from versions 28.4.1 and 28.5. The JPG from version 28.5 added additional white space to the left, right, and top edges where artwork was hidden by a clipping path. This is not how Illustrator behaved previously. Is there a workaround?

    This is a bug similar to that one:

    Both are fixed in the latest Beta build and are expected to be pushed into 28.6 GA build.

14. Insufficient data for an image

    Saving as .PDF from .AI gives me this warning if I am using any type of image (.JPG, .PSD, .TIFF, .PSB) over 100MBs. When the PDF starts to open in Acrobat the warning comes up.

    Illustrator 27.8.1

    I solved the problem by going back to version 27 and exporting one of the files that I was having issues with.

15. Stroke Inside is unchangeable on a compound shape

    If you make a compound shape from two paths with strokes set to Inside, then this is retained for the compound shape and shown in the Appearance panel, but it's not reflected in the Stroke panel and it can't be changed there.

17. Illustrator 27.9 introduces severe choppiness when panning with fingers on trackpad rather than Hand tool

    When panning with the Hand tool, performance remains intact and panning is smooth. When using trackpad or mouse to move the canvas, frame rate is severely low, 10 fps, even on an empty document. This is a new issue that has existed in the past but had been resolved sometime in the past year or two.

    Using a MacBook Pro with M2 Max 38-core GPU running macOS Ventura 13.5.2, the latest as of now.

    This issue reduces efficiency and hampers productivity, making it unpleasant to navigate small documents and impossible to navigate large ones with multiple dartboards.

    Uninstalling and re-installing Illustrator, and erasing preferences, with multiple system restarts in between, did not resolve the issue.

    This issue is not reproducible in Illustrator 27.8.1, before upgrading or after downgrading from 27.9. Performance with the mouse/trackpad or with the hand tool is identical and runs at 60 fps on an external display and 120 fps on the built-in display.

18. Toggling Layer Visibility now Lags Greatly with each New Layer Added after introduction of Search to Layers

    In May 2022 (before Search Layers was added for example) you could have a file with 2600 layers and toggle the visibility on and off in less than a second. Now in June 2023 the same type of file takes 30 seconds to toggle the visibility of a single layer.

    Here's how to reproduce the BUG that has been introduced into ILLUSTRATOR now:

    I'm using a - Windows 10 Desktop
    Illustrator v 27.6.1
    ASUS Laptop with 40 GB of RAM
    1TB SSD drives and plenty of scratch disk and page file space.

    Reproduction Steps:

    1. create a new Illustrator document 1920x1080
    2. create 100 new blank layers
    3. on layer 100 just create a very simple shape like a rectangle
    4. copy all 100 layers (so now there are 200 layers)
    5. drag the new rectangle (on layer 200) over and give it a different color
    6. now copy all 200 layers (so now there are 400 layers)
    7. drag the two new rectangles (on layer 300 and layer 400) over and give them a different color
    8. now copy all 400 layers (so now there are 800 layers)
    9. drag the 4 new rectangles (on layers 500, 600, 700 and 800) over and give them a different color
    10. now copy all 800 layers (so now there are 1600 layers)
    11. drag the 8 new rectangles (on layers 900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600) over and give them a different color
    12. at this point you only have 16 shapes (rectangles) each with a different color, but there should be 1600 unique layers in the document (the other layers are just empty and blank for simplicity of this example to to show that it is not the complexity of the art causing the issue)
    13. select one of the layers with the visible rectangle in it and toggle the visibility of that simple shape and note how it take many seconds for the visibility of that simple layer to change
    14. in MAY 2022 Illustrator build a document far more complex than this simple example had no problem toggling a layer like this in less than a second with over 2600 layers, but now in JUNE 2023 there is a noticeable LAG that starts happening to toggling layer visibility as early as only 400 layers in an Illustrator file

    I've attached an example file below so you can see how the final test file should look like in case of issues following the above instructions in order to see and test the bug introduced in the newer version of Illustrator.

    In May 2022 (before Search Layers was added for example) you could have a file with 2600 layers and toggle the visibility on and off in less than a second. Now in June 2023 the same type of file takes 30 seconds to toggle the visibility of a single layer.

    Here's how to reproduce the BUG that has been introduced into ILLUSTRATOR now:

    I'm using a - Windows 10 Desktop
    Illustrator v 27.6.1
    ASUS Laptop with 40 GB of RAM
    1TB SSD drives and plenty of scratch disk and page file space.

    Fixed in Beta 27.9 5. Please check if it works for you.

    At the test setup it now takes roughly 1 second to hide and show layers.

19. Pressing Ctrl/Cmd+Enter in Color field no longer adjusts other color values proportionately with live color preview since 27.1.1

    Prior to 27.1.1, when live color changes were made, we were able to use Ctrl/Cmd+Enter after changing a value to proportionally move all other sliders, which is an equivalent of dragging a slider with Ctrl/Cmd key held.
    The face the preview is now live should not kill this old feature., since Ai surely can remember previous values.

    We have fixed the issue and a build with the fix is available in Beta.

20. Livetracing Bitmaps gives results with random shades of black

    Up until recently, if I used the Livetrace and Expand command on a bitmap it would produce results with only pure white and pure black, as you would expect. Now it randomly assigns values to every piece of what should be black. Instead of 100% black they are 99.29% or 99.67%. Normally I would select one piece, select all by color and move it. Now I need to click on every single piece and apply black to them. Very tedious.

    Keith, the team reverted the Image Trace panel back to the more stable version. If you use 27.7 version, you can try to update to Beta, or revert to the older version, or wait until the Beta version will go stable.
