workspace While using the new Illustrator CC v.23, the workspaces will randomly move around and cover up the art board that I am working on. I can simply click "reset workspace" and it's back to normal it is very frequently that the workspaces move around randomly. Please fix, Thanks.
8 votesWe have a feature to popup colors panel when you click on fill/stroke proxy. Please remove the colors panel from the the workspace when it pops-up you should be fine. When I say remove you just have to remove from the dock and keep it as a floating

Tool panels are enlarged or scaled up Updated to Illustrator 2019 - workspace panels have increased dramatically in size - see screen grab of Illustrator and the same area in photoshop.
Solutions helpful as I cannot have as many panel open as they now take up so much space!

Cannot close main application window with keyboard shortcut When there are no documents open, it's apparently not possible to close the application window from the keyboard (e.g. with the traditional shortcut Cmd+W). The Close option is disabled in the File menu.
2 votesHi Kit,
Cmd+W is used to close the documents, if you want to close the application, please use Cmd+Q
Thanks

Welcome screen Illustrator CC 2019 Customize the Welcome Back screen: Right now the "Start a new file fast" screen shows various options including an A4. I'm not in the EU. Where's the US Letter size? That would make the most sense in the US. Where can I edit that group? How do I clear the list of most recent?
4 votesYou can do cmd/ctrl + N, select print section and go to A4. You will find the A4 size in the unit you want.

Can't Print Illustration Illustrator refuses to print even small 8.5 x 11 files to our desktop printer. This is an essential part of this program and severely impacts my ability to design and create production files when I cannot print out a simple proof without exporting it to a PDF before Printing.

Poor quality images from Export for Screens Mac OS 10.13.5, Illustrator 22.1
Images from artboards containing embedded raster files output using Export for Screens are of decidedly lower quality than those output from Save for Web. Please see the attached image for a side-by-side comparison. Save for Web is on the left, Explort for Screens on the right. Top images are actual size, bottom enlarged for emphasis. Notice the jaggies in the raster images.
20 votesResolved (Comments Open) ·AdminRama (Mgr, Software Quality Engineering, Adobe Illustrator) responded
The difference in image quality between Save for Web and Export for Screens is due to different DPI used. Save for Web uses 96 DPI as default, Export for Screen 1x scale uses 72 DPI. Changing the option from 1x to 96 DPI should match the quality of Image exported Save for Web

artboard I am having issues with the alignment of the image on the artboard. It seems the rectangle I used to cover the artboard isn't lining up. I am not sure if this is a problem or I simply don't know how to fix it
2 votesThe artwork has a small black dot on the right side, far away from the artboard. Watch closely at the right side of your 11×17.jpg image to notice it.
And export options were probably without ‘Use artboards’ tick.P.S. Please always provide the file you have problems with!

Copy text from illustrator and paste into word pastes as image and not editable text Illustrator CC 22.1.
Mack book pro MacOS high Sierra Version10.13.6.
Microsoft Word Version16.23 (190309)Copy text from illustrator (Command C) and paste it into Word (Command V) using shortcuts on keyboard the text does not come in to word as editable text but as a picture that I cannot edit.
I copy text from illustrator and past it into Word for editing and then past it back into Illustrator when I am done with the word editing. I do this for technical drawings, sketchbooks and any other 2D design and presentation work.
Since 2011 until 2018 I was able to…1 voteIf you right click in word you should get a paste as text option.
Can you please contact Microsoft support. Like most applications we do promise text in clipboard along with other formats like svg, metafile etc…
It is for word to pick any of these clipboard formats and consume. -
New Swatch grayed out when Stroke Color is active Make New Swatch always available, not only when the Fill Color is active.
1 voteHi Jan,
Your New swatch option is disabled since the Stroke Color is set to None. New swatch functionality by default takes the current color.
If you apply some color to Stroke, the option will get enabled, similarly if you change Fill to None, it will be disabled for Fill as well.Hope This helps.

Anchor Points Malfunctioning I regret to report that, after updating to Adobe Illustrator CC 2019 and upgrading my OS Mojave, the anchor points have become rather fickle, especially with the Direct Selection tool. The shape will look the same once drawn with the Pen Tool, and the anchor points will still be there, but they are invisible. They can still be tampered with, but after releasing the mouse they will disappear. The same issue applies to the rectangular grid tool. Anchor points can be edited and seen with the curvature tool; that is about the only way to do so without the anchor…

Oversize UI Elements in Ai 2019 I noticed that with the 2019 version of Illustrator (23.0), the entire UI of the software seems to be "supersized." It is as if every pixel is now rendered oversized. Not just in the drawing area, but all the tools, controls, panels, everything.
I've attached a "full screen" screen shot of the 2019 (v. 23.0) welcome screen, and the (reinstalled) 2018 (v. 22.1) welcome screen. Both are maximized on the same physical screen, the display on my MacBook Pro. See how the buttons and other elements are larger in the 2019 version? Like it is somehow zoomed in.
I do…

"Left-click the tool to view a list of all the tools in the tool group." Does not work. "Left-click the tool to view a list of all the tools in the tool group."
Very simple, right? We've all been able to do it forever.
Well, I don't want to be overly unpleasant about this, but, having finally upgraded from Adobe CS5 to Adobe CC, I find that this most basic of actions is unperformable on my computer. It worked in CS5.
It's the newest version of Mojave, 10.14.3, and the newest version of Illustrator, on account of me having just installed it.

Pathfinder Merge actually Dividing, leaving cut out objects behind This might be easier to read on the forums where the images are inline with the explanation, but I copy pasted everything here anyway. Here's the thread.
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2601397
This has been a thorn in my side for so long I can no longer ignore it. I don't know when it happened but at some point Illustrator's Merge tool started dividing objects instead of merging them, and leaves behind cut up versions of objects that are behind the visible objects.
MacBook Pro 15 2017
macOS Mojave Version 10.14.2
2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
16GB memory
using Illustrator CC 2019 version 23.0.2…
1 voteThe objects had the Overprint attribute checked in Attributes panel. With this option on Illustrator leaves fragments unmerged to match the assumed intention behind having Overprint one. This is a normal expected behaviour, but not a transparent one.
If you have this problem, don’t hesitate to leave the comment to force the team to rethink the UX behind this.

Pen tool rapidly changes to selection tool arrow glitch Pen tool rapidly changes to selection tool arrow when I move the cursor. OS 10.14.3 / Ai CC 23.0.2. On wacom tablet. The pen tool icon changes every micro-second to the selection tool icon and back again. Very hard to work this way. If I more my stylus even a tiny bit it happens. I have the pen tool selected in the toolbox.

User Interface zoomed in The interface in my Adobe Illustrator 2019 is 'zoomed-in' and it's not the same size as other Adobe apps. I've attached a screen shot of Illustrator 2018 vs Illustrator 2019.
1 voteIllustrator has a feature to scale user interface on high resolution devices. You may choose to turn it off under preferences>User Interface>UI Scaling.

Direct selection tool not resizing selected artwork When I try to click on an anchor point and resize my artwork with the direct selection tool, it does not resize the artwork anymore. It just moves the artwork. Fortunately, I can still use the Free Transform Tool to resize objects and artwork. This is on Windows 10 in Illustrator CC 22.1.

Dialog boxes appearing on second display I run Illustrator CC on an iMac (5K, 27-inch, late 2015) running Mojave, with a secondary ViewSonic display for browser windows, etc. I do my design work on the iMac display. Sadly, all of my Adobe Illustrator dialog boxes (save, etc.) appear on that second display (this has been the case for the last few CC releases, and predates Mojave)—it got so annoying that I disconnected the second display for a while. No issues with the other Adobe apps I run (Photoshop and InDesign). Would love to see this resolved.
1 votePlease upgrade to latest Illustrtor version 23.0. We did fix something similar. However we do recommend and support Illustrator only on primary monitors

Interacting with properties panel can make app require force close MacOS 10.14.1
Illustrator 23.0.1Clicking on options in the 'Properties' palette, then clicking outside the resulting dialog can make the app become mostly unusable:
- Menus are greyed out
- any menu function can't be done, including save and quit
1 voteHi David,
This happens, when you open some menu while a panel pop-up is still open. Since you had the fill popup open from properties panel, when you clicked on menu, so its grayed out.
You need to close the popup first to open the menu.
- Don't see your idea?
