Spacebar not working as quick Pan / Hand tool
Spacebar has stopped working as hand tool as of 2018 update.

Hi,
Thanks for the information provided to the Illustrator team.
We are able to reproduce this issue at our end and the engineering team is currently isolating this issue further to get to the root cause.

Did you try CMD T?

Quitting Chrome worked for me too! That's odd, but thanks!

Guys, no joke, quitting Chrome worked for me! No idea why, but I'm sure glad it worked!

This is absolutely NOT RESOLVED. Stopping/starting Illustrator has no effect, and I don't use Safari.
One of the more frustrating bugs out there. Wish Adobe would look at feedback.

This is absolutely NOT RESOLVED. 4+ years since this bug was first reported, and no resolution.
What's the point of bringing these to Adobe's attention?

This is definitely still not resolved. I don't use Safari at all. I used to be able to exit out of the program and reopen it, then it would work. That no longer does the trick. Sometimes a total restart fixes it, but it only seems to last temporarily. Please fix this bug Adobe!

This is not resolved at all.
A variety of people have tried all of the safari "fixes," and this has been a problem for years. Can we get someone to address it? -

Hope this will work for someone else, but this just worked for me. I pressed "Remind me tomorrow" for way too long when prompted daily for updates. FInally gave in today, opened illustrator and my hand is back. No idea which update worked (adobe? the OS?) Mac Sierra 10.13.6 is what I just updated to. Good luck!

I've got the same thing.
Tried quiting Safari. Pressing H and then V. Nothing working

I'm having the same problem too

I'm having the same problem on my Mac, pressing H and V did not fix the problem. I don't use Safari, so this isn't the problem, but just for kicks, I opened it and shut it down. It did nothing to fix the problem. I use the space bar hand tool a lot and this is very inconvenient.

Hello all... This worked for me:
- In Illustrator
- Press (H) to invoke the Hand Tool
- Press (V) to invoke the Selection Tool
- Now, pressing spacebar will allow in-process use of Hand ToolHope this helps.

Same issue,
Quitting all safari processes doesn't fix it once it's been launched.
Have to literally hard power cycle to restore functionality.

I'm having this same issue in Photoshop! My computer was updated (8/2/18) and I am no longer able to use the space bar as automatic hand tool. Have spent hours trying to find a solution. Yes, I have shut down Safari and it still does not work. I REALLY need this function to work ASAP!! It's slowing down my work flow like crazy!! PLEASE HELP!

Glad that simple solution worked for you and any others, but turning off Safari before, during or after Ai just does not fix this issue on my 2018 Mac 10.13.5 High Sierra; Illustrator 22.1 CC. I have looked through every set-up and preference I can think of and nothing I can find resolves this. It's seriously impeding my workflow. NOT RESOLVED.

Hi All,
Here is the Workaround:
Mac: Quit Safari as it takes away the spacebar shortcut
Win:
For Windows we have a solution to make the space bar work as the hand tool by modifying few track pad settings of your system.
The behavior you are encountering on systems running Windows is related to the Accidental Activation Prevention (AAP) feature that was added in Windows 8.1. The feature’s goal is to help ensure that unintended taps on the touchpad do not switch focus to another application while the user is typing. When this feature is enabled, taps and clicks from an integrated touchpad or pointing stick are suppressed for a while after the last keystroke.
The feature’s settings can be modified via the Settings | Touchpad applet. Setting the Touchpad Sensitivity option to Most Sensitive should disable AAP and allow Illustrator to detect when the Space key and left track pad button are both down.
You will find an option named 'touch guard' under track pad settings. Check if its Turned OFF. This may prevent Illustrator from using hand tool short cut. Thanks

if your Safari browser is open, you just only need to close it. It is working for me now!

Still not working, I'm on Mac OSX 10.13.6 and facing this problem also in photoshop.

Possible Fix - with Illustrator open, I restarted Safari and both the handtool and magnify tool worked.

This is definitely NOT RESOLVED! -even after quitting Safari. This on an iMac 10.13.5 High Sierra using Illustrator 22.1 with no trackpad (just not precise enough for me). Yes you can hit the H key to move around then Command = or Command - to zoom but after a long time of having the convenience of the spacebar as move tool shortcut (plus when repositioning a point while drawing a path with pen tool) or as a zoom assist shortcut is really annoying and slowing things way down. Please restore this functionality!
