Spacebar not working as quick Pan / Hand tool
Spacebar has stopped working as hand tool as of 2018 update.
Hi,
Thanks for the information provided to the Illustrator team.
We are able to reproduce this issue at our end and the engineering team is currently isolating this issue further to get to the root cause.
With Best Regards,

This works:
(tried a few things based on other sites/threads).Save your work, close all Adobe apps
(didn't work for just Illustrator. I had to close Photoshop and InDesign to make it work)Option + Click-Finder (in Dock): Relaunch
(Takes just a few seconds)Opened Illustrator again and problem was solved.
Some threads also said they had to restart computer and issue was fixed. Mine worked just doing the Relaunch Finder thing.
FYI: I'm still running an older CS 5.1 but from my understanding, it's the same issue with the apps running.
One helper said this issue happens at random times from using the Command + H (hide) in any of the apps. I know this or something similar has happened to me in the past but I've been a designer using Adobe products since 1990 and it's very rare to me.
Hope this helps someone :)

Think I've posted this before - but when this happens to me (usually on a daily basis) I find that when I'm in Illustrator and I put the computer to sleep then immediately wake the computer back up using the spacebar the issue resolves itself. Much better than quitting and reopening Illustrator.
To me this says the space bar is being hi-jacked by something else on the system...

Since the update to 25.2.3 (desktop for mac) the space bar doesn't work as a shortcut to the hand tool nor the zoom tool (used together with command). This absolutely sucks. Please repair this at once! Thank you.

Hello,
Since I download the new version of the Creative Cloud yesterday and had to re-download of my adobe apps, the space bar shortcut that allowed me to navigate through my file doesn't work anymore.
And I cannot modify the shortcut anywhere. This is really diminishing efficiency...
Please help. -

I have found that if I go to the Apple Menu and select sleep then immediately wake the computer again the space bar starts working again.

All of a sudden command + spacebar has stopped working and also using just the spacebar for the hand tool. I had this issue years ago but I thought it had been fixed. I'm using AI2020 v24.3. Its so bloody frustrating as the only way to sort it seems to be restarting my Mac, which a massive pain. Any ideas or suggestions?

It continues to work for me in After Effects after it stops working in Illustrator. Maybe get the two teams to chat with each other.

Please fix this ASAP. I use this continuously throughout the day and it is messing with my productivity and workflow and increasing my stresslevels.

The idea of other applications hijacking the spacebar is good one.
Just for an added data point, it happens to me and I never have Chrome or Spotify running so if is a hijack problem it isn't isolated to those apps.

Looks like this might be an issue with having Spotify running at the same time as Ai. Spotify uses the spacebar to pause/unpause songs and can sometimes 'take over' the use of the spacebar in other apps.
I suggest trying a restart of Spotify.
You can also follow the steps here to reset the hardware preferences in Chrome (which can also hijack shortcuts): https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Windows/Google-hijacking-my-keyboard-shortcuts/m-p/4731051#M75230
