New text box appearing on clicking in current text box
When you click in a text box with the type tool, it'll create a new text box unless you click on the actual word you want to modify. Or if you are trying to add something to the end of your text and click like a millimeter off the letter, it'll create a new text box.
This is super annoying and I'm not quite sure why this function is necessary. It didn't use to be like this until the last update. Please look at this for the next update for those who use a lot of text in Illustrator.

Set Area Type width to larger than 13.888 inches via Type->Area Type Options... dialog
Though the type tool can draw area type boxes of any size, the width property of the Area Type Options dialog box can only be set up to 13.888 inches. This means that for any wider area type, whenever you change a property within the Area Type Options it will be resized to 13.888 inches wide.

Type on path positioning is now quantized and not smooth
Take a look at the GIF.
In Illustrator 2022 users were able to position start and end marker brackets with practically infinite precision, smoothly, even for a long, single-bezier path.
In 2023 these markers are quantized to 0.005 increments! For a long, single-bezier path, this creates laughably large steps (like, almost the width of an entire glyph).
Note that the quantization is per bezier segment, so if you put text on a path that has many anchor points, it won't be as noticeable. But adding loads of points to a path makes it much less editable later, of course, so…10 votes -
Discretionary hyphens do not seem to work
I can’t get discretionary hyphens to work in Illustrator CC 23.0.2, either by shift-command-- or with Type->Insert Special Character->Hyphens and Dashes->Discretionary Hyphen. Whether Hyphenate is turned on or off for the paragraph does not matter. Language does not seem to make a difference either.
Only the hyphens added by Illustrator itself are obeyed.10 votes -
Kerning on extended selections can only be set to Auto or 0

Unwanted characters appearing when outlining text.
When using Type > Create Outlines, there is a chance of unwanted characters appearing.
Attached is a file where the error is reproducible. Notice how an additional "d" and "g" appear with you outline the text.
This file was created using Ai CC v22.0.1 and according to forum posts ive found, this issue has existed since CS4 or possibly earlier.

Deleting segment of path for 'Type on path' and than undoing it gives wrong result
I have type on path.
I delete one segment of the path, and text is now overflowing.
I undo deletion, path got restored, but text does not — it is still trimmed, and I have to NOTICE this and drag end marker back.

Enter while typing does not get recorded in history as an Undo step
When I type a text in Illustrator and hit Enter to make a paragraph break, it does not get recorded into the history as an operation I can undo. This means all typed paragraphs get clumped in history together and get undone as a whole.
This is not how many other apps do, including InDesign and Word.
Some apps also consider line breaks as an interruption of flow, which would have been handy too.

Pressing Backspace in text gets recorded in History as a chain of separate Clear steps
When we type a text, Ai treats it as one operation, all the time.
Even when we press Enter, the flow is considered to be uninterrupted — and there a bug report about this:

text selection issue with threaded text frames
Trying to select text in the second column of a threaded text frame is impossible. The selection always jumps to select the text in the previous text frame. In the video example I uploaded - I'm simply trying to select just the top paragraph in the middle column - but it keeps highlighting the text in the linked text frame on the left column. I can never just select the top 3 lines in the middle column.

Problem with Type on a Path after ver. 26.1 update
Prior to updating Adobe Illustrator to ver. 26.1, a drawing with Type on a Path appears as it should. After the update, the text is positioned in a different place along the path. This is confirmed on a second computer. The same file opened on the second computer prior to the update appears normal, and after the update, the text is shifted.

再現方法
サイズA4で新規アートボードを作成
「要冷凍」というテキストオブジェクトをサイズ15ptで作成
このテキストにアピアランス「パスのオフセット：0.05mm」を適用する
アートボードの座標をX座標 100mm、Y座標 -148mmに変更
「要冷凍」テキストの座標をX座標 197mm、Y座標 -2.1mmに変更
文字の塗り潰しが添付画像のようになる（座標は全て左上起点）テキストをアウトライン化しても発生する
どのようなフォントでも発生する
同じような大きさの複合パスでも発生する
線幅では発生しない以下の環境で確認
MacOS 10.15.7
Adobe Illustrator 26.0.1
Adobe Illustrator 25.4.2
Adobe Illustrator 24.3Windows10 Pro
Adobe Illustrator 24.3(64bit)通常作成される、座標（X0,Y0）のアートボードで、版面左上端にテキストがかかっている場所で発生するようだ。普通こんな位置にテキストは置かないが、アートボードの座標がたまたまY軸方向にマイナス（上）X軸方向100mmの位置にあると、版面の真ん中で発生してしまう。文字というより複合パスで発生しているようである。
対処方法
アートボードの座標をリセットして、当該オブジェクトを適当な位置に移動して戻すと解消する。

ご報告いただきました問題につきまして、再現が確認できました。
「パスのオフセット」効果が適用されている文字の中マド部分の直線と、「Y軸 = 0」のラインが重なる場合に発生するようです。
簡単に「田」や「A」の字で再現できました。今後の開発進捗などはこちらでご報告させていただきます。

Large Amounts of Text overrun text area, disregard justification
I'm using Illustrator CC (2017).
I am creating a 6'x4' poster, where a single text box holds the entire text of the Bible (~730,000 words) as a single string of text (regular spaces between words, but no paragraph returns) in Helvetica Neue Lt Std, 107 Extra Bold Condensed, 3 pt size with 2.7 pt leading, all caps, full justification, default hyphenation. I am using a text wrap around a compound object with a transparent fill to create a negative space in the midst of this text block (in my case, that compound object is text converted to a shape, so…9 votesThanks for reporting this bug Illustrator Team really appreciate this.

Slanted instances are not properly sorted
When a variable font has ***** axis and right leaning instances (common oblique styles) the Oblique instances gets sorted before the Romans on the font menu dropdown. See attachment.
According to the OT spec, right leaning instances must use negative values, so I‘m guessing Adobe’s font menu is sorting instances by slnt coordinates in ascending direction when it should be in the other direction.
This is not only bad and uncommon for users but is also pushing font developers to make fonts against the spec just to circunvent this situation. Plase fix.

Bullets are forced when pasting a text
Please take a look at the GIF.
I paste a text (using Paste without formatting) into a mixed selection, made with Select All command. The text has both bulleted and non-bulleted paragraphs.
I expect it to NOT have bullets enabled, since the first paragraph in the selection does not have it.
Instead, Illustrator forces bullets for the whole pasted text.8 votes -
Hyphenation ignores pre-hyphenated words
Many languages have pre-hyphenated words (like 'pre-hyphenated').
When I setup Hyphenation with Before and After values, I expect Illustrator to apply these to each part of a hyphenated word, not to the whole complex word itself, like Ai does in the picture (where the arrow is pointing). Instead, it should prefer the existing hyphen to break a line at, not just one symbol away from it. This forces users to use 'no break' often (which is hard to call) and generally spend more time on editing.
Here is a text example.

行頭禁則文字に関わる和欧文間隔をカスタマイズ可能に！
Illustratorの日本語組版で、たとえばプリセットの文字組アキ量設定「行末約物半角」を元に、和欧文間隔を「0%」にカスタマイズしても、そのカスタマイズの結果は、何故か「行頭禁則文字」に分類される文字種には効果がありません。
※添付ファイルをご参照くださいませ（macOS Catalina上のCC2021にて作成）。日本語組版の中では、デフォルトの「25%」アキを「12.5%」あるいは「0%」としたいという作業は少なからず発生しますが、上記のような挙動では、作業者の負担になるばかりです。
可能であれば、「文字組アキ量設定和欧文間隔のカスタマイズが、行頭禁則文字にも効くように」改善することを希望します。
挙動を変更していただければ、作業者の負担も軽減され、喜んで受け入れられるに違いありません。なお、このような挙動の変更は、「文字組みアキ量設定に頼らずなんらかの方法で和欧文間隔を変更した既存ファイル」にはあまり影響がないものと考えますが、変更していただくならば、【その変更を周知】していただくことは大切なことだと申し添えておきます。

Auto spell checker wants to capitalise new lines after forced line breaks
This is a bug report for the new auto spell checker feature in Illustrator 2020.
It does not understand that when you force a line break (using shift-return, not making a new paragraph with return), it’s not a new sentence.
So it wants to capitalise the first word on the new line.
This makes no sense and does not match the way it works in InDesign.

Missing fonts issue
It's not reading Adobe fonts. It keeps saying to activate the font every time I open a document. The program hangs trying to activate a font, making the file not work properly "without" a font that was perviously activated.

Text will not change fill colour to what has been selected
WIndows 10, Illustrator 23.0.3: After selecting text, I try to change the fill colour either using the eyedropper tool or the swatches panel. I expect the text to change to that colour. However, while the colour window shows the colour has been changed, the text doesn't actually change colour. I have to outline the text in order to get it to change colour.

As per attached screen shot , for the selected Text object your fill is below the Characters in appearance panel.
Can you kindly move the Fill above the characters and change fill. This will hopefully resolve your problem.
In order to identify the root cause , can you kindly provide us eyedropper setting snapshot ,you can find eyedropper settings by double click on eyedropper tool .Thanks
