By any chance you're using Spot colors to define the die/fold lines? Preview app at times has issues with spot colors.

This is an area we are actively working on. In the current version all new documents are created without any color profile. But if you open a document from desktop Ai, the color profile associated with it is preserved.

The workaround to assigning a color profile to documents created in desktop.
    - Create a new document.
    - Click on the Home button to close it.
    - Open the document on desktop Ai, and assign a profile.
    - Open back in Ai on the iPad.

In future we will bring the capability to pick a profile for new documents, and also the ability to assign a different profile in the open document.

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 26.3.1 which is available worldwide now.

Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

First of all, thanks to all of you for reporting this. We acknowledge and appreciate your feedback, which helps us improve the experience in features we've built.

Kindly allow me to explain a few things that led to this feature.

Zoom is a relative value of visually scaling something that is set to some baseline. Usually this base line is 100% (actual size). In Ai, 100% zoom was historically set to assume that the resolution of the screen is 72ppi, which used to be the case long long ago. This assumption met its first challenge around 5-6 years ago when HiDPI/Retina displays came and art on such screens became crisp but small. Both Photoshop and Illustrator introduced 'Support for HiDPI / Retina' in CS6 to address this. Advancements in display resolution kept increasing, and the core assumption (of 72ppi being base for actual size display) kept getting dissociated further.

For this version we set ourselves to cast the baseline right. One thing to remember is that zoom value is saved as part of the document, so this change will bring differences of viewing from the last version, as the baseline zoom has been corrected.

The other part is that Ai continues to be based on 'points' as the core underlying unit and 72 points equals 1 inch. Also, 1px = 1pt for all measurements.

In respect to this resetting the base zoom, one thing we failed to called out explicitly is that this is current implementation does not work in Pixel Preview mode. This is a work in progress. Which also means, there is no change in Pixel Preview mode between Ai CC 2018 and the latest version. Both versions continue to have the same baselines of 100% in Pixel Preview mode.

But beyond the technical aspects, there are fine nuances of different workflows that we may have missed, and we'd like to learn more about it from you so that we can improve the current behavior. It is here that we seek you help. If you're open to a short call (video conference / screen share) with the Ai team, please fill this short survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ActualSizeView

    Thanks you for your feedback.

Some reasons why this is happening. More details below - hope this helps explain the dynamics at play.

There are three ways of creating clipping groups in Ai:

    1. Select two overlapping paths, Object > Clipping Mask > Make.
    2. Select a path, go to Draw Inside Mode > create/paste anything.
    3. Select an image and click 'Mask' button.

Masking path, by design, cannot contain advanced fills, strokes and effects. Inline with this rule, creating clipping groups using first method drops all fills and strokes of the masking path. There is a minor exception in the second method where 'basic' stroke and fill is retained, but effects or advanced/multiple fills get dropped.

In all clip groups, the clipping path gets a little less priority than the clipped object. This can be seen when trying to select the contents of the clip group - the selection hits are only recognized on clipped content, even when a fill is available in the clipping path.

Issue highlighted here mentions that a new stroke is being added over the entire layer and is being moved below the content. Any new stroke in appearance panel, is an effect. And as described in point #2, clipping paths cannot contain effects.

Also worth mentioning here is that the new stroke added at layer level in appearance panel, and then moved below is not a right course for workaround as it pushes the stroke below all fills - notice only half the thickness of stroke is visible (the other half is getting hidden behind the fill).

The expectation mentioned in this report is to enable strokes on clipping groups via appearance panel - for that the limitations mentioned in #2 would have to be go away. A detailed study of technical possibilities, use-case analysis and user research would have to be done on currently existing content, as well as clipping groups that would get created in future.

It would be be helpful if you could share a snapshot of the IDs you're referring to, from the previous version. It would help align on the expectations. Thanks!

    Thanks for your response.

The first case is pretty clear, and no change is expected in that workflow.

For the second one, the case I wanted to highlight can be explained with these: Create a new document, draw something and save it as a PDF (with Illustrator Editing Capabilities). Pick Compatibility as Acrobat 3 (PDF 1.3). Give the PDF a name (say A.pdf), and close the file.

Create a new document, same steps, but this time pick Compatibility as Acrobat 8 (PDF 1.7). Save and close the file. Say B.pdf

So in both cases different Compatibility options were used. Now, when we open A.pdf and do a Save As (PDF) - the PDF options dialog shows Acrobat 3 for compatibility - as the default starting point. And B.pdf will show Acrobat 8 for compatibility. This is because the PDF compatibility information gets embedded in the file itself.

We can surely change the current behavior such that when A.pdf is opened and Save As (PDF) it performed, Acrobat 8 compatibility is shown in the dialog (as that was the last used option). But, this change will deprive the users to know which compatibility version (and other settings) were embedded in the PDF they opened. It is also possible that there could be certain workflows based on this info - those would be affected too.

One more thing to consider here is that Save / SaveAs PDF with Illustrator Editing Capabilities ON is a completely different file, than those saved with Illustrator Editing Capabilities OFF. What I described above is only related to PDFs saved with Illustrator Editing Capabilities ON.

Generating PDFs from InDesign is an export workflow, and does not have such challenges.

Question - Would providing 'File > Export > PDF' and then making the options of that dialog persistent, make a better story, that changing what is working now.

Look forward to your feedback. Thanks!

There are a couple of considerations to be made here:

    1. When you save/close a PDF (with Ai editing capabilities), open it back, make some edits and press Cmd+S (Save), original PDF settings are preserved. I am assuming there are no expectations of changing this behavior.

    2. Same document, when Saved As (copy), the PDF options dialog picks up the settings embedded in the PDF as the starting point. Users can then change it. By showing user's last used setting (as requested in this report), it would not be possible to populate PDF's embedded setting in the dialog.

Please share if this is an acceptable change.

Thanks for raising this. We completely understand the pain of having large raster bounds arising from clipped groups. We are actively pursuing this. And all we can say right now, that it is bit complex. We'll definitely update this thread as soon as we make some progress.

    Thanks for raising this request.

We'd like to hear your opinion on what all should be considered as a part of this feature.

There are four different ways of transforming an artboard in editing mode:
    1. Horizontal to Vertical (and vice-versa) orientation change
    2. Picking a different preset from dropdown (e.g. Letter to A4)
    3. Cursor based scaling from the eight controls of selected artboard, and
    4. Changing numbers in the W/H fields in panels

Which of these do you think should be considered as a part of this feature? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Please share a screen recording, and if possible, a sample file on which exhibits this problem <sharewithai[at]adobe[dot][com>

We would like to investigate this. As a rule, we've tried to discard the Reshape segment cursor, as soon as the direct selection or anchor point cursor is in the vicinity of the anchor point handle.

    Thanks!

    A small suggestion here:

The feature builds we post in our pre-release forum is a different channel than this one. It is not an public forum and it's discussions are covered under NDA. While we will continue announcing information of builds related to corresponding feature requests and bugs here, it is recommended that conversations related to beta builds are done in PR forums as it would not be possible to answer those queries here.

In future, we would also be careful of adding a note around this, when we announce availability of features/fixes with status update as 'Done (In Beta).

    Cheers!

That's right - it can get fairly complex and un-predictable. An appearance (effect) overlapping the basic fill / stroke can come in the way. And some appearances like dashed-lines, inside-stroke, variable-width, etc. get applied from outside of the Effects menu.

There is a setting in that may help in case of large glow/shadows. Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display > Object Selection by Path Only.

Enabling this option will disable clicks on appearances (fill/strokes/effects) from selecting the object. Only paths can be used for selection.

Pantone Color Libraries that are available in Illustrator (and InDesign, and Photoshop) are provide by Pantone under a business agreement with Adobe. Not all color libraries are covered under this agreement and both have their independent update cycles.

But you can update the color libraries through PANTONE PLUS Digital Libraries Installer. You can find more details about it here: https://www.pantone.com/how-to-get-pantone-color-manager

    Thanks!

Thanks for compiling this and sharing details of your workflow. It definitely helps us understand the issue better.

As we gather, there are two parts to the issue - one, there are different decimal limits in different places, and two, this difference is leading to precision related problems when you use scale factor in your measurements. For the first part - it would have been easy to solve, if we had just one unit to deal with. Illustrator handles 8 different units simultaneously and each have their own logical scales. Units like Pica or Q/Ha, or even Inches, require a different treatment than mm/cm. An input in one unit, has to be converted with its best possible accuracy to the working unit. This is not to say that anomalies do not exist. And as you've pointed out in the examples, there are different decimal inputs limits in different places.

What we are thinking is to build a consistent decimal limit, for each unit in all places. But it would still be possible to see different decimal limits for different units. Maybe, we even expose decimal control for different units, in the UI. Maybe.

For using scale factor, building a consistent decimal limit for each unit, should solve the problem to an extent, but ideally there needs be a different solution for that problem and we're exploring different possible options around that.
