Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the feedback. The color yellow has been removed altogether as a layer color, and has been replaced by Magenta color for Layer 5. This functionality is available in our latest release build – 24.1.1 for Win and 24.1 for Mac which is available worldwide now.

Just learn how to use key object setting by clicking one.
But I agree this is almost unlearnable — I've learnt this long-long ago, by accidentally misclicking an object, seeing a fat line and some experimenting (I never used Manual those days).
Please, don't make key base on order of selection. This would be a step back. -

Grouping selecting routines in palette — this is fresh. I personally have a lot of F-keys attached to 'Select same' commands. I used to juggle these to get what I want, locking and hiding art I don't need. It looks like this: I won't need text, select all text and lock, then I won't need whites, select bu fill, lock, then all reds, same fill, lock, then unlock all, select inverse, lock, have whites, text and red unlocked... and so on. When you have only these tools, I quickly learn how to select what you want, but some smart selection base on appearance would be nice too. Corel Draw have more powerful search engine, but it's SO slow in preparation! dozen of dialogue windows, not interactive and frightening.
Saving selection in AI is possible, but mostly unusable and hardly manageable. At least Layers could have tags to show which object in which selection. Or there could be a list of selection sets with list of objects. -

Snapping should work only when snapping is enabled. But snapping to bleed is a good idea.

I would better like this as a live effect. The most preferable way — is a tool that creates live effect, which ten can be edited.

We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 22.1.

If there's a way to change yellow color in ALL new documents?
I haven't tried it yet, but I guess I could open 'profile' document, create 5 layers, edit it's color, then delete four and save. If this would work, then the case is closed. If not — you really better think a way of letting users predefine layers' colors and other auto-stuff.
