The solution is pushed into Global Availability build 28.6.

The team intends to add another command into this menu, allowing to copy the path. That’s it.

This request crucially lacks feedback from all the voters. Please comment back: do it if you don’t like how it works, and do it if you do.

@Kelly Bruce: if only I could install something like that. The company won't even let us go to the app store to browse...

The network is the problem, which has nothing to do with Adobe.

Pull the files down to your local storage. OR, you can turn off auto updates in preferences. Under File Handling. OR you can un-check automatically save cloud docs every... mins, if you're working with cloud docs.

Perceptual gradients are now available in the latest 30.0 general build.

Toggle the option in the Gradient or Control panels.

Read more about it in this help article.

As stated there, important notes are:

    • You won’t be able to expand a perceptual gradient into a gradient mesh
    • Gradients added to CC Libraries don’t support this interpolation method — PDF format know nothing about it as a concept, it’s something only Ai does. The same reason prevents these to be exported as live gradient into PDF or SVG formats.

Note also, that some clipboard managers or extension would interfere in copy/pasting these, as reported here.

Please test it and comment back — this will help to improve this further.

    Adobe Illustrator's Multithreading Journey Begins!

    Dear Illustrator Community,

I'm thrilled to announce that we've embarked on an exciting journey to bring multithreading capabilities to Adobe Illustrator. This significant undertaking will enhance performance and responsiveness across various aspects of the application.

While this is a complex process that will take some time to fully implement, I wanted to share our progress so far.

    Our Approach

We've strategically begun by focusing on the most computationally intensive operations—those that typically take more time and block the main thread, resulting in slower response times while you work. By moving these operations to separate threads, we aim to significantly improve your overall experience with Illustrator.

It's important to note that you may see more noticeable impact in some areas than others initially. However, we want to assure you that this is just the beginning, and we will continue this journey to bring improvements across…

Also, let me qualify further. The links are not scattered all over the place, they are within one folder. If they were in many different places I think that would be impossible. Definitely makes the case for being organized, lol!

    Dina Dembicki commented  ·

Egor, are you asking me? I think if relative paths were an option that would take care of it. Assuming all the links are in the "parent folder", like so:

    PROJECT FOLDER
    - Round 1 folder
    -- Links folder
    -- Working file.ai
    - Round 2 folder (copy of R1 folder)
    -- Links folder
    -- Working File.ai

File and folder names INSIDE the copied folder don't change, therefore the link isn't broken (which I know is not what I described below). Links to the working file would be relative to the folder that each working file is in. LInks that go outside the renamed folder would be broken.

Which I think this is how relative links would work? (Art school is not helping me here, haha.)

So, in my current workflow, when I dupe a folder I have to open my AI file and relink to the links in the duped folder. They are oddly still linked to the original links.

I work the same way. When I dupe that entire folder, I change the name of the folder (v3 or r2 or whatever), the working file, and all my linked files also change to that same version number. Then when I open the new file, first thing I do is re-link to the newly named files that will then be updated.

I agree, though it's a PITA. I wonder if there is a way to change how Illustrator sees its links--relative vs. absolute. because if you could make your links relative, I think that would solve the issue... ?

another workaround would be to import the tiles into PS as a smart vector object, then size to where you need the resolution to be, and rasterize the smart object.

um... there is actually a preference for that. See screen shot attached. Use manually, or ask when modified. I know it looks like it only refers to the anti-alias pref above it, but it's global.

Once you save your linked file, it looks like the second screen shot, where it turns the link icon into the yellow circle with the circular arrows in it, indicating that it needs to be updated. It takes a few seconds to update to the yellow circle, just be patient.

I can see the value of being able to delete a linked file from the links panel. But it already sort of does that, when you click on go to link. Assuming the layers are visible and unlocked, it takes you to the linked file where you can delete the file, thereby also deleting the link.

I haven't ever experienced a "ghost link", where there's no file but the link remains. But I have been able to not see linked files that were hidden...

The team started to exploring ways to implement this finally. If you have some fresh ideas and things to say to help to make it the way we need it to be — it’s time to comment (it always is!)

Please try to describe how you expect it to work. When should it happen? What are your workflows? What UI you think could work? What can go wrong?

Also, please don’t forget to upvote this request if you are interested — Display copies of links' duplicates as instances, like in InDesign

Still not completely fixed, and I'm using 24.5.1. For large complex files with multiple artboards, I have found that un-checking Create PDF compatible file when saving has been the most effective to speed things up, but I do need that capability in the end to place my illy file into anything else.

Beta, shmeta. I'm still having this issue, in the 2021 version. The file itself isn't small (285mb) though. Is there a workaround, or a best practice to speed things up?
