It is not as straightforward as it may sound :) We have been working to take advantage of threads and other hardware such as GPU/Video RAM in places where it can make a higher impact. We are prioritizing areas that are slow instead of making a generic change and destabilizing the product. Product stability is the top priority for us and we have been consistently trying to improve it. We want to move with caution and make changes without compromising on the quality. Hope this helps.

+1 for this. Please. Illustrator is an outrageously poor performer on my computer. Constant freezes. Constant crashes. All kinds of glitches. It's feeling less stable with each release.

Adobe, please address this issue or update us about what is going on with the status of this being under review for FIVE years.

Maybe there is some good news in store at Adobe Max

I agree with this as well. I use Illustrator heavily throughout my workday, and I want it to be able to leverage the hardware on my computer better.

We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3

You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.

I second the comment by @Bradley

I create graphics and signage along side of people working in CAD. Working in CAD doesn't give me the design capabilities of Illustrator. I could round trip the designs back into a layout in CAD, but it's an extra step and I find it nicer to keep everything in one (Illustrator) document and do all of my dimensioning, notating and creation of scale drawings there.

+1 for the matching CADtools functionality.

Agree with everything in the previous comment. Often in my work we are designing pieces that are laid out on top of architectural drawings, so the ability to se dimension to standard architectural scales (ex: 1/2'=1'-0") as well as any custom scale would be great.

It would also be good to be be able to make dimensions on angles as well.

The ability to have the dimensions auto update is important. There are many plugins on the market that will add dimensioning, but most of them require the dimension to be re-drawn once the object is re-sized. CadTools is the only plug-in I'm aware of which updates as objects are re-sized.

I would want the dimensioning to happen inside of Illustrator.

The ability to set scale would be extremely important. I design signs and the ability to output drawings in scale for our shops to manufacture is key for me. (I currently use the CADtools plugin by Hot Door)

I would need angled dimensions as well. The ability to measure angles as well (in degrees would also be useful)

On a side note, another very nice to have a labeling ability as well. CADtools allows you to create labels that are attached to objects. These are useful at the same point that dimensioning happens.

This seems like a simple and obvious tool to have in Illustrator. There are tons of places where it would be useful, but just in case the developers don't understand why this should have been implemented years ago:

If I want to make a drop shadow and have it match an existing color in the document, if you open up the color too in the Drop Shadow dialog there is NO option to select a color from the document. No eyedropper.

    Options are:

Have had added the color as a swatch beforehand and then pick it from there
Copy and paste the color info (hex maybe) from an eyedropper sampled color outside of the dialogue and then go back into the dialogue and paste it.

Your software always feels stuck in the year 2005. This is just another example.

Additionally, Photoshop has an eyedropper as part of the Color picker. And then Color picker on XD feels the most modern as it lets you sample anything on your screen.

Anyway, please update this feature, and all of the rest of the antiquated features on this dusty piece of software.
