Automatically make gradients by just selecting two or more colors
Create a default gradient of two or more colors just by selecting them on the artwork or on the swatches panel without having to copy and paste the color codes separately.

This functionality is now available in all the public builds starting V29.0.
To use this functionality, simply select colors from your swatches panel and click on 'create gradient' in the swatch panel options.

Allow to add dithering to gradients to reduce banding / improve quality
We have banding when printing gradients from exported TIFF-files.
I have to open them in Photoshop, search a way to select areas with gradients and apply noise in channels needed.
I can apply Grain effect to gradients where I need, but this makes everything run very slow.
What if you add dithering as an option to gradient swatch? or to fill?
So it could be displayed in screen space, applied to current level of zoom, and would export as raster images as well? without slowing down?59 votesDithered gradients are now available in the latest 30.0 general build.

As stated there, important notes are:
- Dithered gradients follow the resolution set in Document Raster Effect Settings. In fact, this dithering is a raster-based effect, same as Gaussian Blur. It should stay live as long as you keep Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities option enabled (be mindful of this when you save your work in a PDF).
- Dither at the moment works only with gradient fills, not strokes
- Gradients added to CC Libraries don’t support Dither — PDF format know nothing about dithered gradients as a concept, it’s something only Ai does
Note also, that some clipboard managers or extension would interfere in copy/pasting these, similar to how it happens with perceptual gradients, as reported here.

LCH Gradients
Add support for gradient interpolation spaces other than sRGB, such as LCH (Lightness, Chroma, Hue). When creating a gradient between non-analogous colors, the LCH color space preserves saturation throughout the gradient, whereas Illustrator's gradients have a muddy center.

- Gradients added to CC Libraries don’t support this interpolation method — PDF format know nothing about it as a concept, it’s something only Ai does. The same reason prevents these to be exported as live gradient into PDF or SVG formats.
Note also, that some clipboard managers or extension would interfere in copy/pasting these, as reported here.

Gradient following the curve of a shape
Don't know if this is an original idea but - is it possible to make an feature to make a gradient follow a user-drawn guideline (like with text on line)..? I tried to illustrate it in the attached file - the first shape is the one that should be filled with gradient, the second one is what we can do now (or mesh but that's a bit complicated) and the third one shows the guideline in purple and arrows that the gradient would follow. So the lower left part of the shape would be let's say darkest, the gradient would…
8 votesSince version CS6, Illustrator allows to align gradients on strokes with a dedicated set of Align Stroke buttons in the full expanded Stroke panel.
