    If you create a new document and make the artboard smaller than the old max of 227" and then try to resize it larger than 227" once it has opened, you cannot. It gives you an error message that says "Artboard cannot be created outside the canvas bounds". You are able to create a file larger than 227" x 227" from the very beginning however.
