It is confounding that someone would prefer any behaviour other than marquee zoom when clicking and dragging with a mouse. Mirroring the zoom behavior of the track pad/mouse scroll wheel for a click and drag action is illogical. (If you want a scroll zoom or “scrubby” zoom, you’d use the hardware best designed for that feature.)

That said, I will concede that individuals have their peculiarities. I am dubious that a majority of users would not ever want marquee zoom. I am incredulous that so few want the feature that it must be disabled by default and hidden away behind a GPU Performance preference. Whatever disdan Adobe’s current developers might have for marquee zoom, one might hope that someone might have reconsidered such an ugly assault on good interface design. I cannot think of a more unintuitive placement for a marquee zoom preference.

This is my second time, in some years, searching for a way to return marquee zoom after my preferences were corrupted. Perhaps by posting a complaint, I’ll commit this fix to memory. (It is probably unlikely it will effect change.)

(And yes, I realize the real issue is that marquee zoom is not even considered a preference. The preference option is a performance fix and marquee zoom merely a concession made to indulge users with doddering GPU’s. That’s how little Adobe thinks of it’s marquee zoomers.)
