I have been working with Adobe Illustrator on my desktop for over 25 years, the program works flawlessly and I love it. I use the program daily for my work as an illustrator and designer. As a design teacher I also learn my students how to work with Adobe Illustrator.

From the moment Illustrator became available on the iPad I installed the app because a lot of my work and my designs start on my iPad. I had hoped to be able to extend the user experience of Illustrator on the desktop to my iPad but after countless attempts and years of frustration I have come to the conclusion that the app is a horror to work with! What's more, it is simply unusable.

The intuitive workflow of Illustrator on the desktop is nowhere to be found on the iPad. Half of the tools barely work, icons are different and give a different result when using them, tools are grouped differently, basic functions are missing, etc.

It is as if the programmers of the app and the desktop version do not consult each other at all and both mainly do their own thing.

I can understand that you can't translate a desktop version 1 on 1 to an app. But the current app and the desktop version are currently as far apart as Earth and Pluto. To create a smooth workflow this is simply too far apart

It can be done differently, because there are apps that do succeed in creating a good vector app on the iPad. And that are also a lot cheaper than the junk that Adobe currently produces.

My tip is to throw this iPad app in the trash and start over! Because otherwise the headlines will soon be "Adobe overtaken by the competition".
