    At work, All jobs set up in Illustrator have an art layer, a cut layer, and a registration layer.
    The cut path/object layer never has a fill or stroke. I CTRL/click the eye of this layer to show it in outline mode on artboard so it is visible. Upon doing so the layer thumbnail also shows an outline preview.... which looks like the object is stroked black. These thumbnails never showed outline mode, as I have been setting files up like this for 20 years
