    Mark, I would say that is an awkward solution.
    1.) You still need to select PDF from the drop down menu (extra steps)
    2.) The AI source file you were just working on now becomes the PDF variant.

    My idea is optimized for speed.

    In my work exporting to PDF needs to happen rapidly to share with team members. Please add Export As PDF into the File dropdown, assign it CMD+E, and give it the ability to remember the last folder location the PDF was saved (i.e InDesign).
