    I also have this problem when working on documents for large format print such as exhibition panels. This often means that saving the file as a pdf is impossible as it exceeds the maximum document size for a pdf.
    For instance a wall graphic split across 4 panels/artboards with a background image which runs across all four panels has the same linked image 4 times for within the final pdf.
