    When one or more objects of a Layer are selected, the Layer gets highlighted and also indicates a selection. To locate the object in the Layer panel – see if this works. Select the object, click on the Layer panel flyout menu and pick ‘Locate Object’.

    The "Locate" action you are talking about should be automated and activated by default! Can't believe this exists in that form...
