Effect/Filter parity with Photoshop/Indesign/After Effects
Many of the effects in Illustrator seem to be only half implemented (in comparison to PS/AE/etc). Illustrator's glow/shadow/etc effects only have a few options compared to the same effects in other Adobe apps, which makes them less adaptable & powerful. Please beef up the effects (and add new ones, such as directional feather/gradient feather/inner shadow) in Illustrator so that they match the offerings in Adobe's other apps.

I think vector would be great too, we have the whole pile of "Photoshop effects" that can take paths or bitmaps as input and output a bitmap. Wikipedia tells me they were added in Illustrator 7 and haven't changed a single bit in the 29 years since then.
Most of the existing effects only generate greyscale and would be like 6000% more useful if you could use them as the opacity mask of another fill/stroke but that's probably gonna require a lot of reworking of the Appearance palette.

I suppose you mean raster images placed or embedded in an Illustrator document, not vector?

I wish I could use Photoshop's Median Filter as an Effect in Illustrator. (Photoshop → Filter → Noise → Median)
