    Spoke to support who helped stop this.

    Go to Illustrator > Preferences > Performance, look for the GPU setting and uncheck 'Animated zoom' (and potentially 'graphics cards' however I didn't see this option, and just the unchecking of 'Animated zoom' worked) :D

    I have had this issue for over 18 months now also. It happens constantly when zooming in/out, or moving the canvas around in Illustrator.
