Oh ok, Illustrator's Grid. Yes, hiding the AI Grid (Win Ctrl+') made the problem go away! Thanks for the tip I never would have thought of that. I've always used the grid as a tool to "eye ball" the size of objects. It seems odd that such a simple function would cripple the graphic system the way it does. I can probably work without the grid most of the time. But I have a library of electronic symbols designed on a grid spacing of 0.025in, which works best for our publishing needs. Smart Guides does not always work well for placing the symbols, Grid Snap is a quick and accurate method to align the symbols and "wires". So, I hope this problem with Grid View can be resolved soon. Thanks again.

Thank you Egor & Simon, I tried turning off the grid layer and yes it did speed things up somewhat, I still have a significant delay when I try to click and drag an object. This level of response remained after I turned the grid layer back on. I saved the file to a new name, no change in performance. I then deleted the empty layers and unused objects, saved-as and restarted AI25.4 The slowness and stalling returned on opening the new file. I turned off icons for all but top layers in the layers pallette, no change. I opened another drawing with the same problem and that brought AI to a virtual stop, I waited 30 seconds to switch between windows.
If I switch to CPU preview the response improves, but there are still delays in the programs responses. I've also realized that most of the problem files were created from .AIT template files. The sample file was created from a template file last edited with AI24. The program behavior seems inconsistent to me. Other than the GPU/CPU switch I can't see any patterns that offer clues to the problem.

My Illustrator v25.4 is also slow to open or close files. And so slow to edit objects as to be useless. Every click causes a "(Not responding...)" in the title bar. This occurs for all drawings created in previous versions, to varying degrees. New drawings created with v25.4 operate properly. Content copy&pasted from old files to a v25.4 new blank file work properly. But it is impractical to do this for every previous drawing. Disabling "Real time editing" helped some. My AI scratch folder is on 2nd drive. I reinstalled v24.3, it works at full speed on any file I open. GPU feature is enabled in both versions, Real time editing is enabled in v24.3. All files are on the local machine. AI does not report any errors or incompatibilities. I was on autoupdate so I don't know exactly in which version the problem started. Other than opening or closing a file can Antivirus slow down operations? I'm really stumped. My machine is an HP Xeon workstation with 64 GB ram, two SSDs, Nvidia P5000. I will have to use v24.3 until an update makes the problem go away.

The Saved Views feature could be improved by allowing for more views, say 64, might be enough for me.

Overwrite or "Update" button applied to the selected view name.
