There is a change in behavior in revolve from "classic" that makes it impossible to do somethnig. Let's say I wanted to make something that looked like an apple with a section cut out (to keep it simple I wish to revolve a half circle with the the edge red and the fill white, about 270 degrees. No matter how I do this, the "open" part is at the back of the object. It's not possible to light an object from the back, so I can't get the shading right on the "white" part of the apple.

In the "classic" version, rotating from the one side (left, maybe) put the open part at the back, and rotating from the other side (the right, maybe) put the open part to the front.
