   Starting from Beta build 29.6 156, Illustrator allows to rearrange only selected artboards, via the Rearrange button from the Control / Properties / Artboards panels.

   The feature is still in development, so please test it and comment back, to make sure it suits your needs.

   I use a lot of artboards for ui interface pictures (GIS program, a lot of symbols for functions), but also for a lot of objects in the map. I would like to arrange parts around a certain theme (like road objects) after creating a lot of them.
