    For what it's worth, quitting AI and restarting resolves the issue. I've tested the same exact types of shapes, and the path orientation works in one instance but doesn't in another. I'm not sure what's happening, but at some point, adjusting the Blend settings (steps, ramp, shift, etc.) causes the orientation to stick in the "Align to Path" mode no matter what.

    Video attached. It seems to be more common with complex shapes, but once the glitch is active, even simple shapes fail to work correctly. Essentially, no matter how many times you click the orientation setting, it reverts, causing the whole group to rotate RATHER than keeping the angle of the beginning and end shapes as-is.

    The strange thing is that sometimes it functions as expected, but with no rhyme or reason.
