We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 23.0.

Make It an Experience.An error occurred while saving the comment Kyle Marcantelli commentedNot sure how often the Adobe Techs check these comments, but perhaps there is some way to make the "Align to" a Preferences Setting. I do agree with other commenters I have seen posting about this issue, it has been a nuisance to not have the default be "Align to Artboard."

For anyone with the same issue, here is the response I got from the Adobe Illustrator team. I found this to be much more efficient than how I used to delete multiple artboards.
Emailed Answer:
To achieve this quickly what you can do is select multiple artboards by shift + click or shift + drag to marquee in artboard tool mode and hit delete. All selected artboards will be deleted.
