We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 23.0.

It is still exactly the same. Very frustrating and time consuming. Please Adobe, put the font menu back to how it was, it's driving me mad scrolling through hundreds of fonts everytime. If it's not broken, don't fix it!!!

The current workaround for completely eliminating 'Recent' section in font list is to set '0' in Preferences > Type: Number of Recent Fonts.
But since it’s stupid, please add votes to make it work properly.
