However, when the key color is automatically gets set as the white (or any grayscale tint) as the most prominent color, the hue shift gets calculated wrong.
If you think Illustrator should pick another color in cases like this — please continue voting.

Hello Egor,
You are a genius :-). If i use a color (not a gray tint), then it fixes the problem. Using gray it does not work. But if i color the Brush object key color to red for instance, create a new pattern brush and colorization set to Hue Shift, it automatically recognises the red. And now the stroke color appears correctly on the stroke with the pattern brush applied to it.
I will make a lot of customers happy with this fix.
