I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 25.2.3 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

The latest Beta Build 29.3.0.2 now offers a way to calculate the area, using the existing Measure Tool.
- Select the Measure Tool from the Toolbar.
- Click on a closed path to calculate its area (for now it has to have a fill, so the area is actually ink coverage)
- The calculated area will be displayed in the Info panel, shown automatically.
- To calculate the total area of multiple paths, hold Shift and click.
- Configure measurement options by accessing the flyout menu of the panel. You can customize units, precision, and scale to suit your requirements.
The team is looking forward to hear the feedback on this new feature — please try it out and make comments.

@Sanjay, thank you for your reply. Despite my GPU not being in Adobe's list (and the driver showing that it didn't require an update) - I went directly to the NVIDIA website and found that there was a more up to date driver. Since installing this I'm not getting the error message - I hope others can find this solution.
Thanks
