Support layers in patterns
I want to be able to make patterns in layers. So if I use layers when I make a pattern, then I get a pattern that is editable in layers. It would save much time if you want to make variations.

SKETCH
For example one can have a sketch layer that one lock and dim out, and that one can set is not "counted" in the pattern. Then you can make pattern efter a sketch. If you have that now and have that it adjust to artwork, then the sketch affect the sising of the pattern.SAVE TIME
Also if you do various combinations of patterns, different textures and different colors, then these variations will be only a matter of turning layers on or off as you go through the variations you want. Now you have to go over the whole pattern process again and again, you can just fastuse different combinations together that you have set up.EVALUATE LAYERS SEPARATELY
Also often if you make a bit more advanced patterns you can have different things going on in foreground pattern and other things in background pattern. If you have foreground and background pattern in different layer then you can easily turn on/off foreground/background pattern. -

When I make a pattern and choose "size tile to art" and have a negative spacing, then it's not possible to have a background in the pattern, because then it clips the artwork. I haven't found a way to get passed this so it would be great if background was somehow in it's own layer beneath, so that it didn't clip the artwork.

Can you explain this a little more?
