Adjust the length of the extremitys to avoid outline vectorization
Avoid contour crossing without vectorizing the paths and losing my paths (if I ever want to reshape my shape)

These strokes have miter joins.
To avoid these protruding sharp ends, you have to construct the art differently.
Instead of making closed shapes (image 1), open paths better be used (image 2).
No handy, sure, but Ai don’t have vector networks, to calculate which connection is more important than the other, automatically (and the request for vector networks specifically exists: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/43085403)Another method is just to use round joins.

Nicolas, you just need to connect your segments in different way or change miter options for stroke.
