It would be really useful if we could import an .AIC file on an Indesign layout, whithout having to download it. I'm so surprised it doesn't work yet !
Indeed :
> I draw on my Ipad on the Illustrator app. On Illustrator Ipad App, the file are automatically saved on the Cloud. (Besides, it would be useful to have the choice to save it on the Ipad itself, offline).
> I have to import my Illustrator drawings on an Indesign layout on my computer. I thought that the "workflow" would allow me to see my drawing automatically updated on the Indesign layout, gradually.
In fact the Cloud doesn't help my, even worse, I loose time because of that lack, because I have to :
- wait the Ipad .aic file is upload on the cloud
- download the .aic file on my computer
- import it
- and again and again for each update.Furthermore, if we have an internet breakdown, I can't do that "solution" anymore.
Thanks for you understanding -

Understanding that Illustrator has some principally different kinds of elements that InDesign, I believe it's possible at least export some simple things with a warning that anything complicated will not be saved (as it happens when exporting to some kind of eps10 for example). Should be kept: general arrangement of elements, text, illustrations from simple forms (without meshes, ets). Illustrations made by fundamentally different methods can be offered to rasterize during export, blends and similar could be offered to expand.
