Set Default File/Place Folder Location
Right now, AI doesn't offer the ability to change what folder opens up when you File/Place. It always go to the last used. Could we have an option to change it to where the opened file is? (I think PS offers this already).

Please describe the steps you performed to save and install the script.
At the page I shared a link to, there is a button, 'Download raw file' (the down arrow and a tray below). It should save the 'nearPlaceAI.jsx' file at your PC.
There are many ways to run a script then, including just drag-n-drop the file on canvas or using File > Scripts > Other Script command.
Is this what you did? -

When I run, this error message shows up and in the meantime Illustrator goes unresponsive and crashes after a while. I did update to the latest version and no change.

Strange, works for me :/ Can you share the screenshot of the error?

Thank you Egor! Can´t get it to work unfortunately, always gives me an error and Illustrator crashes. But then again, I have never used Scripts before. Will look more into it.

There is a free script that does exactly this:
https://github.com/shock-tm/shock-warehouse/blob/master/jsx-Illustrator/nearPlaceAI.jsx
When run, it opens the Place dialog open at the folder that the current document is located in.
You can install it into your Scripts folder and record it into an action to quickly access it.But I still upvote this, it definitely should be an option somewhere in Links.

Could not agree more. I work A LOT in different projects every day and I really hate the time I use browsing between projects. If "Relink" for example would go to current link folder instead of "last used". I know the "recent folders" is supposed to help but if 10 different projects all have "LINKS" folders it is not quite as helpful.
