I need to set the stroke for the pencil tool before creating the artwork! Online support was not able to solve it...help!

It should work like this:
1. Deselect all
2. Set stroke you like
3. Make sure you have 'New art has basic appearance' ticked in the Appearance panel flyout menu
That’s it.
