The embroidery market is huge, but Ai is not a specialized software — this is a separate market: Embrillance, Pulse, Floriani, Wilcom... importing a PDF should be something these allow, I believe, not the other way around. The vote count would have to be much higher for this to become a priority over other more general requests, sadly.
Pulse has a dedicated plugin for Illustrator: https://www.embroideryi2.com/adobe/ — but I’m pretty sure this is a known workaround.
